She had meant it when she told him it had only and always been Stefan.
It is true, Damon had been fun and had his... strengths (she's always been a sucker for blue eyes - which reminds her, she needs to pay Matt Donovan a visit) but Katherine has always been taken with the other Salvatore brother.
It had been the initial challenge of actually having to work at drawing him in that had her intrigued at first. After all, she was a Petrova; she'd had men falling at her feet for centuries, before Stefan had even come into the picture, but, there he was, a simple southern boy, and she was the one who had to lure him in and not the other way around.
She wonders, now, why she had been intrigued and not annoyed; questions vaguely why she hadn't simply ripped his throat out as she would have done under normal circumstances, but the answer doesn't matter now.
All that matters now is that he'd succeeded in capturing her affections to himself, what with his subtle words and quirked lips, and if he thought that she would leave before she was good and ready, well, time really had done a number on his sensibilities, despite his supernatural state.
Perhaps she hadn't come back here, to this godforsaken town, just for him, but he was here, and she wanted him badly enough to actually spare him more than the passing thought.
The truth of the matter is, she always got what she wanted - and Katherine damn sure wasn't about to break that pattern now.
