9-7, +218 was good enough for 22nd place and a 47-point rating gain. I could inundate you with stats, bingo lists, stories, and whatnot. Instead, I'm going to tell one quick story, then go in-depth on one game in particular.
First, the story: On Saturday afternoon,
verbophage and I went with another Scrabbler to Lloyd Center, a mall a few blocks from the tourney site, to grab some lunch. While walking towards the food court, I noticed that whoever placed the stores in the mall had the foresight (?) to put Victoria's Secret and Frederick's of Hollywood next door to one another. (Has shopping gone from the blue-light special to the red-light district?) On the way out, Dan noticed what was across the way from those two shops...
...a maternity wear store.
(I'll let the wits who read this supply an appropriate punch line. Or inappropriate, as the case may be.)
Now, to the analysis:

copyright1983 Play the game! I'll close with a little thought for the Scrabblers, which might turn into a meme.
Certain words hold a particular place in our memory, because of a memorable game involving them. For me, certain final scores are unforgettable as well:
378-378: A tie in the final round of the Vancouver tournament in 2002 won me my first (and only) multi-day tourney.
510-484: An absolutely wild game against Luise Shafritz at the '04 Nationals.
468-508: Wiegand bingos out with (HO)mILETIC with one second left on his clock to swipe a victory away from me in Seattle, 2005.
514-365: Final round of EB1 in Calgary, over Dan, for my first D1 victory.
And now, 430-416.
What scores stick out in your mind?
