CHARACTER
✧ NAME: Elena Gilbert.
✧ SERIES: The Vampire Diaries; television.
✧ HISTORY:
How do we look exactly alike?✧ TIMELINE: 2x07 'Masquerade' - After Elena reconfirms she won't be getting back together with Stefan by the lake.
✧ PERSONALITY:
It can be considered that Elena’s life was the definition of normal prior to her adoptive parents’ deaths and the introduction of the Salvatore brothers-and every supernatural creature that came with them-as she was once oblivious to the dangers around her and the true identities of many of her neighbours and friends. These two events are tied together as Stefan saved Elena from the car wreck at the insistence of her adoptive father; he then stuck around to ensure that she was not, in fact, Katherine. Most importantly, prior to these two significant events, Elena remained oblivious to the fact that she was the Petrova Doppelganger, or, simply, her copy-paste resemblance to Katherine Pierce (perhaps better known as Katerina Petrova in some older circles).
Elena is a popular student at school. She’s also sporty, though this is not followed up during the course of the show as her life becomes dominated by the vampires and supernatural shenanigans she ends up being the centre of. Other adjectives to describe Elena include smart, kind-hearted, compassionate, selfless, caring and nice. At times, Elena can be a damsel in distress, although she does not fit the stereotype completely as she is strong-willed, passionate, and attempts to fight her captors (though, most of the time, they are vampires-hence stronger than her and could easily kill her). She is always needed to be saved. It can be said that Elena is an optimist-she tries her hardest to see the good in every situation, as many of these events turn up in her life and rock her to the core repeatedly.
Elena is rather accepting of her supernatural friends. She eventually accepts Stefan and Damon Salvatore for who they truly are-which are vampires, who once had a relationship with her doppelganger-and once her friend, Caroline Forbes, is turned into a vampire, she continues to remain her friend. With the latter, there is a visible tear in the relationship between Caroline and Bonnie Bennett, which Elena attempts to fix by encouraging Bonnie that Caroline is still Caroline, and she needs them to be her support system, thus showing that she is a true friend.
The arrival of Katherine rocks her to her core. She is confused and yet curious as to why they look exactly alike-the only difference being the way they hold themselves and their hair (although Katherine, with the curled mane, does straighten her hair in attempts to pretend to be Elena). The introduction of her mother, Isobel Flemming, is the catalyst for more curiousity, as well as the discovery that Uncle John Gilbert is not her uncle, but her biological father. Elena’s entire world gets rocked to the core, yet she still remains grounded and has the support of her friends and family to keep her steady. She refuses to acknowledge John as her father, always calling him “Uncle”, and does not like him one bit.
At the death of her brother at the hands of Damon, it is shown that Elena does not forgive those who commit harm to her family-friends included. Luckily for her brother, Jeremy, he was wearing John’s ring, which brought him back to life. Despite feeling negative towards Damon, whenever he was in trouble, she was always there to help him-despite her better judgment-and it can be said that she started to view him differently-those negative feelings starting to disappear-when he came to her rescue with Stefan when she was kidnapped by Rose and hunted by Elijah, all in the same day. She was thankful for his part in helping her escape, though she does not physically show it like she does with Stefan, whom she hugs. Instead, she mouths a “thank you” over his shoulder to Damon, showing that their relationship is slowly mending and that Elena doesn’t hold grudges, but doesn’t forgive so easily as well.
The way Elena treats the Salvatore brothers differs greatly. She is rather kind and soft to Stefan, even when they’re broken up or fighting, and she is rather sharp and harsh to Damon, telling him things that she doesn’t seem to tell Stefan-she gets physically violent with him when he won’t let her enter the tomb to see Stefan (who is trapped in it with Katherine), whereas with Stefan, she only raises her voice.
Elena is a wannabe martyr. She doesn’t want her friends to be killed because of her-as Elijah hunted down Katherine and killed her entire family just because she ran from him-and is constantly trying to sacrifice herself in order to protect everyone else. This causes much dismay for Damon and Stefan, and her entire family, as they are constantly trying to undo the damage that has been done and get themselves out of the sticky situations they are constantly in, which Elena, by offering herself up to be killed as the Petrova Doppelganger sacrifice, does not help. Despite her human status, Elena always wants to be involved and dislikes it when she’s left out of plans as her supernatural friends plot together to try and get her out of danger. She sometimes goes as far as to put herself in danger-unintentionally, as she always has a good heart about it-as seen at the masquerade party at the Lockwood’s, where she sensed that Alaric Saltzman was keeping her busy while her friends-who had been avoiding her-were up to something. She went to the party and they discovered that she was magically linked to Katherine, which meant that any harm done to Katherine was harm done to Elena, such as being stabbed.
Elena is conflicted-it has been implied that she has romantic feelings for both Salvatore brothers, though she openly pursues Stefan and admits her feelings for him. Stefan and Elena have a comfortable relationship that is implied to be mature. When Stefan is upset that he isn’t strong enough, Elena offers him her blood to drink-displaying the incredible sense of trust between them. Stefan is willing to do anything for Elena, and Elena for Stefan. Any feelings for Damon are always stated by another party, such as Katherine saying “It’s alright to love them both. I did”, implying that Elena, in fact, feels for both of them. Her relationship with Damon isn’t as smooth sailing as her one with Stefan; they constantly push each other-he pushes her to stop putting herself in danger and think, as well as making her rather uncomfortable and always being unpredictable, whereas she pushes him to be a better person.
As Elena has lost many people in her life, it is suggested that her friends are like her family, hence her over-protection of them and her wannabe martyr-like decisions. She keeps them close, always being there for them despite her own inner turmoil-such as when Bonnie discovered she was a witch and demonstrated her gifts to Elena, in which Elena was incredibly ecstatic for her-and will do anything to protect them.
✧ ABILITIES/POWERS:
Elena possesses no abilities as she is human.
However, she is the Petrova Doppelganger and is (apparently) required to break the werewolf and vampire curse. This puts her into a lot of sticky situations. The Gilbert ring won't work on her as she is classified as supernatural, though she has no supernatural abilities, hence the classification of human.

SAMPLES
✧ FIRST PERSON:
( accidental video )
- want to go home! [ The feed cuts in to show Elena, standing with her hands on her hips, staring at the wall of the room she has awoken in. Something has to listen to her, she figures, and she glares enough, maybe that something will show itself. And send her back home.
If you look closely, you'll spot a patch of blood on the back of her shirt from where Katherine had stabbed herself. Being magically linked to her ancestor and experiencing the same pain she felt as the Salvatores drove stakes through her wasn't the best experience Elena had ever had. And she wanted to go home and lie down in her bed. ]
Hello? Stefan? Can somebody hear me? [ She jumps a bit, as though that will project her voice, and she winces. Jumping isn't good. She's still feeling sore and it's possible she's still healing.
She places her hand to her back. ] I think I need to go to the hospital. [ It's weak, but Elena's desperate. And if this the work of other vampires? Well, she figures she may have just drawn them out with the scent of the blood drying at the back of her shirt. ] Let me go?
✧ THIRD PERSON:
Elena had been running before she tripped. That was all she could remember. Though the ache at the back of her neck-and that of her ankles-didn’t explain why tripping over her own feet would result in such injuries.
She’d been running from someone-a blur in the forest-and Stefan … Stefan had been incapacitated when he’d screamed at her to run. So she ran, stupidly, thinking that she could overpower a vampire’s quick speed-and she supposed she had-until she felt a hard push at her back and she’d been captured by darkness, waking up in the middle of the woods with a bloody lip, aching head, sore legs and a cut hand.
Standing up, she brushed her pants off with her dirty hand, leaving the one that was bleeding by her side. She frowned as she tried to gain her bearings, try to figure out where everyone was. Wouldn’t they have found her by now? Come to her? She wasn’t sure which way she should go-straight, back, left, right, north-west-and she spun around in a circle without realising, trying to find the memory buried deep within her mind of which direction she’d come from. But the push-it had been a push-came from behind her, and she’d fallen somewhat haphazardly on the ground by a thick tree root. Looking down, she couldn’t find the tree root at all. All she could see were leaves, dirt and grass blades. The trees around her had their roots buried deep into the earth.
Without realising, she pushed her hair back with her injured hand, smearing some blood across her palm and onto her forehead. She winced in pain, looking down at her cut palm. If there was a vampire about, he’d surely have attacked her before she came to. That made her wonder where they were-if they’d taken Stefan, if Bonnie and Caroline were alright-because surely they wouldn’t have let the doppelganger, the human girl, get away so easily. She took a few steps, finding her left leg aching a little in pain, and she stopped.
Pursing her lips, she tried to think of a way out of the woods. But she didn’t know these woods as well as she hoped. She wasn’t a vampire with high senses and super speed. It’d take her hours to explore each direction, and if then, she’d still be lost. So she does what she thinks will work, and she unintentionally mutters (when she meant to yell), “Damon.” She wasn’t sure of Stefan’s whereabouts, whether he’d gotten away from the other vampires, but she had a feeling that the push at her back and the change of position of her fall all had to do with Damon Salvatore.
Boy, was she going to kill him when he ran in on his dark horse.
