I found
this rather interesting article yesterday. It has quite a bit of broken/misused English in the lengthy 10 pages of text, but offers up some very illuminating insights I'd never considered before concerning Coppola's adaptation, such as the idea that Dracula perhaps kills Lucy as revenge for Mina's departure to Romania to marry another. Her discourse about the nature of condensed events also brought to my attention the source novel's motif of things happening in fours: Dracula's lengthy discussions with Harker; 4 blood transfusions; 4 strikes of the stake to confirm death in Lucy (per Van Helsing's folkloric-informed prescription).
