Schlock Mercenary's fabbers already exists, at a cost of less than $2500. Granted,
anything this gadget builds has to be squirted out of a nozzle, which basically leaves you the options of constructing your product out of cake frosting or hot glue (silicone really). But it's still a really cool proof of concept.
