Dirt Withdrawal

It looks like I can't go long without dirt.

I don't know why, but something deep inside says "put seeds in dirt."  Our apartment balcony doesn't get much sunlight though, and I didn't have much luck growing plants in Oklahoma City.  Part of me thinks that is because I was watering them with city water though; it came out of the tap smelling like pool water, lots of chlorine scent.  I grew a lemon tree, rose bush, peas and the like fine on the balcony in California, but they were mostly watered by rain.

So!  My plan currently is to grow weeds, essentially :D

Every super invasive plant I've ever worried about getting loose to run rampant in a yard, I will instead try growing 3 stories up on a balcony in pots :)  I have stinging nettles and italian dandelions for that category.  I'll see how they do.

Also hoping they'll do okay, but not in the edible weed category, are nasturtiums and chinese chives.  I just planted all of them in the pots.

I seem to be accumulating succelents a bit too.

I've got a pepperomia that I got for my birthday in March, and just got two different types of Portulacaria afra/dwarf jadeplant/elephant bush/spekboom, and a sedum rubrotinctum/pork and beans plant.  The elephant bushes are actually edible it seems, and good for bonsais :D   They're from south africa.  The pork and beans plant is from Mexico and is poisonous, it's the only one that is on my balcony, but it does look quite cool.  I'm kind of stoked about the elephant bushes, I had no idea they were useful, I just thought that they looked nice and healthy :)

I wonder if it would creep out the neighbors if I collected rainwater from the gutter downspouts during rainstorms  >_>  .... maybe.  The overhangs are too deep for me to get much rainwater otherwise though, I already used the bottle I collected from putting a pan on the balcony when the wind and rain were right.
