When Hotch introduces the two teams to initiate the collaborative effort on their latest case in Manhattan, well, it's not exactly the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
Neal ends up ducking behind Peter every time Agents David Rossi and Derek Morgan throw dirty looks his way, until it comes to the point where he finally squeaks, "Um, Peter, I don't think your FBI friends like me very much."
Peter thwacks him on the head and tells him to stop being silly. "Aaron Hotchner and his team are one of the brightest and most professional groups I've ever worked with."
"Well I'm pretty sure they keep looking at me like I'm the serial killer they're after."
"That's probably because the last time we worked with white collar crime, the charismatic con artist type turned out to be our unsub rather than an FBI consultant," says a slightly nasal voice from behind them. It's the skinny one, the agent who calls himself a doctor and whom even Peter seems to have a difficult time taking seriously.
"Unsub?" Neal frowns, startled, and Peter has to suppress a chuckle.
"Unknown subject," the young man clarifies with a smile, "usually, more commonly known as: the serial killer we're after. Also, our team tends to profile everyone bearing past experiences in mind. Occupational hazard. Agent Burke, would there by any way of obtaining access to the necessary equipment to build a geographical profile. Our tech analyst is on the line--"
"Ah yes, my partner here will show you the way to our tech office. They should have what you need."
"Peeeeeter," Neal mutters under his breath as the BAU agent makes his way to wait by the door. Any louder and it would be a whine. "He specifically asked you, Agent Burke."
"So what? He thinks you're charismatic. Don't let him down," and Peter shoves him along.
