Her friends in law school are always badgering her about going out more, and since they've all finished up with the term not five hours ago, she thinks, oh, what the hell, and figures there's no harm in a night out with the girls. That is, until they wind up in Shinjuku's nightclub district, and before she knows it, she's being dragged into the nearest host club.
They're seated by a tall, dark-haired man who speaks in single syllables, on a long, cushioned bench where a trolley of drinks comes their way.
It's a blur to her really, all this motion and colour and noise. There is the sound of laughter and applause and cheers for someone's birthday and Haruhi's eyes dart this way and that. When she turns to where Renge was sitting, there is only empty space but she catches her friend's shrill laughter on the other side of the room. She's carting a redhead on each arm and they look remarkably alike. Haruhi wonders if perhaps they are twins.
There are men of various ages and sizes here, setting trays of teacups and various colourfully decorated drinks left and right. Haruhi is a strange mix of curious and uncomfortable when she finds that Mei has also disappeared but she catches a motion in the corner of her eye, pale, golden, and there's a voice too close to her ear, purring a hello.
She turns to face it with a bit of a jolt and is met with a shock of blue. His eyes and that tie are too bright in this harsh light.
"First time?" he asks, voice musical and smooth, and she wonders if it shows.
