Mom: so, how's that boy doing?
Me: what? Which one?
Mom: The one from Stony Brook. Gosh, I'm so tired. I can't remember his name.
Me: Marc?
Mom: No.
Me: Joe?
Mom: NO.
Mom: the one that went to Cornell! The one you dated.
Me: Oh, Glenn?
Mom: Yes.
Me: Good, I guess. He moved to New Hampshire. He got a job as a mechanical designer or something with some engineering company.
Mom: Oh, Congrats to him. That's good, Neal said they have kids coming in everyday with resumes.
Me: Uh huh.
Mom: Has anyone visited him?
Me: Uhh, no.
Mom: Why not?
Me: Have you met our friends? I'd have to plan it or something.
Mom: So why don't you guys do a weekend up there.
Me: uhhhhh, I'd love to see NH, but I wouldn't say we're the best of friends now.
Mom: Oh. Well, he's never coming back you know. Once you get used to that lifestyle, you don't want to.

Oh, mom. Reminding me of the distance I'm trying to forget.
_____

Kim: That one new year's at Jasmine's was good! Remember? We kept trying to make you kiss Glenn, because we knew you would do it eventually.
Me: you guys were so obvious too.
Kim: We didn't care.
Me: and I did kiss him. Look what you guys did! Because that turned out so great.
