I'm not one to rant...

...but someone decided to push a few of my buttons.

Currently, we're helping a friend of ours, dustykat, as he's transitioning between getting out of the condo he was in and getting into a place of his own. ( Anyone reading his own journal has been aware of it.) Dusty is a lot of things: A scarily good SCA fighter, a very good mechanic, an artist, a ( Read more... )

All I'd recommend is to be cognizant of possibly over-reacting. Saving one's ire for situations where it's truly needed can be the most effective technique of all.

To put things in perspective: That thread barely hit three pages. That's tiny for a bike-forum thread. Also, about 90% of the comments are positive or humorous (in a non-furry-mocking humor way). So you have just a tiny group of folks (3, maybe?) giving an anti-fur reaction. In the overall scope of things, that's teeeeeeeeny tiny. On the flipside, look at the folks talking positive... in a biker forum no less! :)

I'm just of the opinion that part of the fandom's "perception/image" issue is not just furry haters -- it's folks in the fandom seriously over-reacting to them.

This has been one of my issues with the Persecution Complex that a lot of furries seem to have. "Oh noes! Teh mundanes is making funs of us! Woe!" Why feed the mockery with over reacation? That's part of what they're looking for, after all. To get a rise out of the people they're mocking.

As for this this thread? It's nothing. A few posts in the thread are kind of negative but over all it's noise and not really worth taking up arms over.

As I mentioned in the post, I'm normally not one to rant.
How and why this got me so riled up is more a matter of reacting to a friend getting cheesed off at having his fun peed on for a bit.
I'm defensive about my friends, as you might have noticed.

I still think it's exceptionally cool that they chose that picture for the catalog cover. I think it's great to see that people are generally positive about how furries are represented and that we can pop up in some pretty interesting places.

As rants go, I didn't even cuss, so it can't be that bad, but more just a quick vent that allows me to get it out of my system by pounding it through a keyboard. I know jerks will be jerks, and hopefully not towards my friends. *shrug*

While your point is very good, I think this (the Bike Forum) falls under the same thing I have about WoW - Don't visit the forum, you'll learn to hate what you love. @.@

Nice photo BTW - I think it was great they were able to use it for thier Catalog. That's a big, BIG honor, and shows the wonderful since of humor on the company's behalf. ^.^

I'm over it BTW, Yes it tweaked me. I'm not really sure WHY I get tweaked about that stuff. Maybe I'm just in a place in my life at the moment where I'm a bit hyper sensitive to a lot of things.

It's the reason I didnt post anything on that forum, It doesnt mean anything in the overall grandious scheme of my world. Once I got to work and got buzy I almost forgot about it. I'm sorry that my morning issue with it also got you rankeled up. It was not my intention to do so.
