Never can it be simple...

I'm starting to just go on the assumption that never, never in my life can anything go in a predicatable fashion.

I finally made all the arrangements to head off to see my girlfriend this Christmas. (Yes, I do have a girlfriend, and have had one for nearly a dozen years, along with my fox for that and two more.) The last few years have not been ( Read more... )

Fear of doing exactly the same kind of damage to my car is why I removed the after-market cold-air-intake from my Integra after I moved back to the Bay Area.

'due to some modifications'? Um... what kind of modifcations, and can those be undone? It doesn't seem to make any sense at all to have a specific air *intake* lower to the ground than the top fo the engine compartment. I always figured they were *up* there for a reason...

I'm guessing it's a cold air intake. CIAs pull in cooler air from outside of a car's engine bay, usually by placing the air filter in the fender between the engine bay and wheel well. While cooler air from outside of the engine helps performance from a stop a bit the big benefit is that, typically, they flow more air with fewer obstructons and odd things that car makers do to intake tubing. Essentially, they let the engine do less work sucking in air.

Did you modify the intake to prevent this happening in the future? Some kind of water trap, perhaps?

I haven't got the car back yet--heck, I'm not even in the same state yet.
When I get back, I can then look into ways to stop this from happening again.

Something like, perhaps, an air by-pass valave for AEM cold air intakes. Specifically designed to help prevent hydro-locking your engine if you happen to accidentally drive into a deep puddle.

That's exactly what I was thinking.
