Stoppable?

Its been my experience that if something *seems* like its out of place, its worth stopping. Every time I think I need to stop something going on and check it out, and I dont, I end up either wondering about it annoyed, or I do, and I am right. Its just that gut feeling you get as a LEO.\

Last night I'm cruising the area where the prostitutes generally meander about. I see a Taurus with an out of county plate, with the driver creeping down the street real slow. I turn around and follow. From there, the seatbelt is on, all stops are complete, turn signals being used. Uh-huh.

I follow him south for two blocks. We go west one block to the major one way north thoroughfare. We continue north about 4 blocks, he turns left and over one block to the major one way south street. (He could have just cut over when he went over to the one way north street). I follow him back down six blocks to a block south of where we originally started.. he is now headed out of the area, presumably back out of town.

So I stop him. Turns out he is driving on a learner permit (with no licensed driver present.) The story about where he was coming from makes no geographical logical sense. First he is dropping of "a friend" who was later "my brother". Uh-huh.

Do you roll your own cigarettes? I ask? "No". Then that doesnt explain the pack of rolling papers behind you on the seat.

Been drinking tonight? "not much. I had three Budweisers".. Then that doesnt explain the pint of whiskey on the seat.

I do the SFSTs and see some signs. Borderline, but close. I took him in and he was a keeper at .09 (we are a .08 state). After the arrest he was asking me 'why did you stop me again?'

Well, lets recap (I read off the original reasons). Oh, and you forgot to signal your lane change too, if you want to get technical. Here's a ticket for that too since you want to whine.

Later in the night I get another DUI that did a PBT at .16. He was a refusal which made it easier. Last night was busy, and everyone wanted to either not cooperate or run their mouth. Some days are just like that. Thats when you feel good about the arrest.

Stupid people means job security.
