The Crane Project

Today I finally got started in on my crane project from last year. I am approaching it like a composition, and I think that the time has helped out. I thought for a while I would keep it secret, but now I think it's better that I share the details.

Here are the logistics:

Last summer, I made approximately 24-36 cranes (I forget, but it's a multiple of 8 I'm pretty sure). I will photograph them all around Cincinnati in small little places and other spots around the area individually. Unfortunately, only about half of the attempts from tonight worked out, but I'll work on it as I get time. Each crane is randomly selected from my backpack as I photograph it, so that I don't get to plan the pattern's interaction with its surroundings.
Afterward, I'll compile a list of mailing addresses from a lot of people who are interested (hopefully more than double the number of cranes- I'll even send them to people I don't know if they say they want one), and use a random number generator to randomly pair up cranes with people on the list. Each crane will also randomly be assigned a mailing date so that they are mailed over the course of a month and a half roughly. Nobody on the list will know whether or not they get a crane until it is too late.

Along with the crane, they'll receive a print of the photo of their crane and a request to e-mail or snail mail me a photo of their crane somewhere unique where they are by a given date. I'll then assemble all the photos of the cranes into a scrapbook of some sort, and the respective people will keep their cranes.

Here's my favorite photo from tonight:
