I went into Borders with the intention of passing time and ended up leaving with
this book instead. It's a collection of short stories by sci fi and fantasy writers including
Star Trek TOS "Trouble with Tribbles" episode writer David Gerrold, Larry Niven (
Ringworld), Juliet Marillier (
Daughter of the Forest), Jacqueline Carey (
Kushiel's Dart), a collaboration between Brian Herbert (
Hunters of Dune) and Kevin J. Anderson (
Jedi Search), and many more. I thought it was a pretty neat anthology and an unbeatable find for me since, lately, I've had such a hard time deciding which genres and/or authors strike my fancy - I usually walk in, spend an hour staring at the shelves and leafing through pages, then leave frustrated, unfulfilled and empty-handed. And the icing on the cake: the net sums due to the authors from the sale of this book go to the Save the Children Foundation for Asian tsunami relief... which made me feel loads better about spending $14 I don't have on something to read.
