So, last week, I couldn't bring myself to update - believe it or not, I actually had work to keep me busily working at my desktop. Summed up, it was the same ho-hum stuff, highlighted by one day of summertime bliss at my friend's three day blowout (Boardapalooza) in Halifax, where, for the first time ever, I went tubing and kicked some serious water-sport ass. And though that was fun, I found myself dealing with swinging couples propositioning me, some girl who singled me out as the person to talk to about her crazy sex life, and a guy that couldn't take no for an answer. What am I, flypaper for freaks?!
Now, another week into my life, I find myself dealing with my renewed facination of natural disasters and apocalyptic theory. I'm watching the news coverage of hurricane Katrina waiting - hoping - for her to venture my way (because I like the idea of huddling under a blanket with a loved one, waiting to make a daring heroic escape when the flooding starts or when the roof falls in) laughing as I imagine the soon-to-be lost city of New Orleans (which, unlike Atlantis, we will know is real). Couple this with the impending doom (in my head, of course) of a nanovirus tearing Earth apart layer-by-layer and the idea of a terraformed moon (see Stephen Baxter's Moonseed, which I just read) and I'm thinking more and more about buying some future beachfront property in Colorado (you know, for when the tides rise and California falls into the ocean).
Also, I can't help but wonder why almost all Sci Fi Channel produced movies suck some royal rectum, while series like SG-1, Atlantis, and Battlestar are so frelling good (this was, of course, decided after a discussion with
freerange_snark about Pterodactyl, which was so bad it was funny). This in mind, I ended up on their website (not really looking for the answer to this question), linked to
Sci-Fi Weekly and learned some juicy little morsels that satiated the fangirl hunger in me. For example:
- Batman Begins hit DVD October 18.
- James Marsters is gonna play Brainiac on Smallville (I know some of you knew this), while Carrie Fisher will be in the Oct. 27 episode.
- Lucy Lawless is guest starring on the Sept. 9 episode of Battlestar (there's also brief mention of her doing cameos in future Evil Dead films, but I don't know what that jive is all about).
- More updated X-Men 3 rumors/info from
IGN Film Force says that Ben Foster has been cast as Archangel/Angel. For those of you who remember the tv series Flash Forward (Nickleodeon, I think), he was Tucker and Firefly's Jewel Staite was his counter-part. I don't think I approve of this casting decision.
- Neil Gaiman, along with director Robert Zemekis, is slated to film a CGI version of Beowulf. I'm kind of skeptical about letting the creator of Back to the Future touch that great epic, though Gaiman will definitely make it a freaky mind-fuck.
I know not all of these tidbits are interesting to all of you, but I wanted to share anyway and suggest visiting the site to see learn some other things that might make you drool.
