I was stopped at a light with a bunch of cars today. Some lady wanted to back out of her driveway two cars ahead of me. They created an opening for her to get out, so she started backing out. Unfortunately, a motorcyclist had decided he didn't want to wait behind the line of cars, and proceeded down the left side of the line of cars over the double yellow line.
The car that was backing up also went over the yellow line, neither saw each other and you can figure out what happened next. Lots of broken motorcycle bits everywhere. The rider was in OK shape considering what had happened. I think he's gonna need some knee work though, because it looked like he jammed it pretty good.
I saw it coming about 2 seconds before it happened which is too late to prevent it.
The two cars ahead of me? They just left once the car that was backing up pulled back into the driveway. The car first in line had a perfect view of the accident, but I guess they didn't want to be a witness. Oh well.
I Left them my name and number and got called by one insurance company already. Will probably get called by the other one in the next day or two.
I had a front row seat and in my opinion they were both at fault, with the motorcyclist more at fault, 60/40. Motorcyclist shouldn't have been going down the wrong side of the street over the yellow line. Woman backing up shouldn't have gone over the yellow line too and should have been more aware of her surroundings. The motorcyclist is more at fault in my opinion, because he had crossed the double yellow and was going down the wrong way.. If she was looking for traffic, a vehicle going the wrong way down the street isn't something you would expect.
