Random thing I love about New York....

crossing a busy intersection (23rd and 6th), and as always, trucks trying to squeak through the intersection before the light turns red inevitably causing gridlock. The pedestrian light changes, and as much as the truck tries to inch itself forward to free itself from the barage of honks it is getting from cars trying to cross perpedicular, the onslaught of pedestrians will not allow the truck to move forward a millimeter nor to retreat back into the intersection. As the driver begins honking and slamming on the steering wheel, multiple pedestrians provide angry scowls and "what the FUCK did you expect, jackass!" sentiments, each of which I have already said to myself in my head. Seriously, I'm not sure if non NY'ers can relate to the feeling of cameradery a gaggle of pedestrians feels when chastising a block-the-box driver.

in other news, Duane Reade now has this points program. For every dollar you spend, you earn a point. 100 points earns you a $5 off coupon. I am in shock at how quickly I have earned not 100 points, but 200 points. That is a lot of trips to Duane Reade and a lot of nothing to show for it (other than the 473 lipsticks in my bag, my never ending supply of bottled water (only purchased on sale), and our "I must have some chocolate NOW!" stash at home)
