My hometown is under water. The storm didnt hit the city as badly as everyone expected, however once the levees broke the entire city flooded. people are still up to their necks in water in their attics waiting to be rescued. the federal government became aware of the 20,000 people taking shelter in the convention center YESTERDAY. everyone knew the superdome was full, but somehow 20,000 people slipped under the federal government's radar, despite the fact that the new orleans mayor informed them of the situation. because aid did not arrive until TODAY (friday afternoon), thousands of people have starved, died of heat, drowned, and been MURDERED. while the entire new orleans police force was out collecting people from their water filled homes, gangs robbed stores not for food or water, but for guns. the 20,000 (numbers rapidly decreasing) people in the convention center can no longer go to the bathroom because every time a guy went into the bathroom he was mugged at gunpoint, sometimes killed. everytime a girl went to the bathroom, she was mugged, raped, and sometimes killed. so now people are shitting on the floor so they dont have to die. people are sitting in their own waste because they are afraid. policemen are turning in their badges because the situation seems hopeless. they havnt slept, they've lost their homes too. mob rule has taken over. i have absolutely no idea if half of my family and all of my friends there are even alive right now. thousands of people have died, and the numbers are rising because of gang violence. federal aid/supplies arrived TODAY. yesterday someone shot at a rescue helicopter and the relief efforts had to be pulled back in order not to endanger the lives of rescue workers. new orleans is gone. rescue workers saw a shark swimming down I-10.
