You know, I was concerned that I'd be bored with unemployment, but so far, it's been okay - which is assisted by the fact that I'm currently interviewing for a couple of jobs, so I'll take the low stress while I can get it. *fingers crossed one of the jobs works out*
Anyway, the weekend turned out marvelous. Friday I met my hair stylist G (cute and straight, who knew you could find that in L.A.?) for lunch, and our lunch date stretched into an afternoon bar crawl of food and beer over two restaurants/bars. I didn't remember the last time I'd spent hours just hanging out, having a long talk, and drinking in the sun, but it was AWESOME. So relaxing and fun. The sad thing is that G just quit the salon at which I met him, so who knows where he'll end up. He's got an insane resume, so I'll know he'll end up someplace top notch, though. I was amused to learn that a production company wants to create a reality show around him. And strangely, I wasn't surprised. I suppose straight, hot, talented hair stylists could anchor an L.A.-based reality show, lol. I hope they find the right concept, because he'd be awesome at something like that.
Saturday,
_lisalisa_ and I and her friend E met up at the Hollywood Bowl to see "Rent," directed by Neil Patrick Harris. It was what I'd expect from an L.A. production, as it starred a hodge-podge of randomly famous peeps, including Wayne Brady (surprisingly awesome), Nicole Scherzinger of the Pussycat Dolls as an incredible Maureen, and Disney escapee Vanessa Hudgins as Mimi. Vanessa was the weak link of the production, but she wasn't all that bad, so it was a lovely evening. Plus, L, E and I had a fantabulous time picnicking before the show! One of the best things about the Bowl is you are encouraged to spend time just hanging out, enjoying the sunset, and catching up with friends before the show. It's one of my favorite L.A. traditions.
Sunday, I met up with
without_me for a belated birthday celebration of mani-pedis. It was so good to catch up with her! We don't see each other near enough, so it was a delightful catch-up session.
Today also has been awesome, as I went on a great hike in the canyons near my house, and I was so damn amused at catching up with "Leverage" to see the writers name check Dr. Who and Torchwood by naming Elliot and Hardison's "detectives" Davies and Moffatt! That was truly hysterical.
I also enjoyed catching up on the shenanigans at Adam Lambert's St. Louis concert stop over the weekend. The Westboro Baptist Church had posted that they planned to picket the concert, so local fans took to Facebook to organize a counter-protest celebrating love and tolerance. It drew over 200 people, and the signs were awesome, and Adam went out to talk to them and support them. Then he told WBC to suck it during "Fever," which I whole-heartedly support.
moonmelody captured some of the great videos documenting the haps, so here's a link to her LJ report:
http://moonmelody.livejournal.com/387323.html?#cutid1 Finally, someone on LJ just posted to a random vid showing a pre-Idol Adam Lambert meeting Pink in what looks to me to be the Hotel Cafe parking garage:
http://community.livejournal.com/ontd_ai/4321195.htmlI found it somewhat touching and humorous - touching, because it's nice to see a pre-fame celebrity wanting to meet someone he admired, and it's even more touching given a year later, he made her song a top 10 hit on Billboard. Second - damn, does everything happen at the Hotel Cafe?
So, happy Monday, friends list!
