This is a lunch-time post so it will be somewhat truncated, but that being said, we had a damn fine weekend. Highlights of the Los Angeles Supernatural Con 2008:

Heheheh. Okay, I'm going to play devil's advocate a little here for fandom, even knowing that you guys know and like Daneel. Since I haven't met her, I think I can see it from a slightly different angle.

First Jared and Sandy, they've been dating for years, even before Supernatural. She loved him before "us" (fandom). She's very obviously smart, gorgeous, has overcome a lot of obstacles in her life. She's willing to "share" Jared with us and has said more than once that she knows how important his fans are to him.

Jensen, on the other hand, has had three girlfriends in the past three years. One a Playboy model, one an actress that belittled him after they broke up and Daneel. Not to mention he dated Jessica Simpson in the past. Let's just say the boy generally seems to pick them from the shallow end of the pool. And I know of at least one fan who had an unpleasant encounter with Daneel where Daneel's behavior left her feeling like shit.

Knowing all that and without digging deeply enough into their personal lives that you end up in stalker territory, I don't think it's that surprising that someone who hasn't met her groups Daneel into the latter group of ladies instead of with Sandy. *shrugs*

Not trying to start an argument, just give a differing pov. ;)

Hahahaha, also an interesting theory! And you may in fact be closer to the mark than I am -- I know absolutely nothing about Jensen's former girlfriends (other than I heard he denied dating Jessica Simpson, for whatever that's worth), and all I really know about Danneel is that she's been friendly and fun the very few times I've met her.

It sounds like we're both kind of pointing to "not really knowing much about her" plus "making assumptions to fill in the gaps" as the "reasoning" behind the negative fannish feeling. The funny thing is... assuming fandom is correct about Jensen's former girlfriends and correct about lumping Danneel in with them, shouldn't that say just as much (if not more) about Jensen than it does about Danneel? I'm just sayin'.

Heh. I think the moral of the story is that people are going to think what they want to think, and not examine the foundations of their arguments very closely.
