Slowly....

My game is working slowly, so I thought to update meanwhile.

Emmy and I are packing a few boxes everyday in preparation for our move to the Bay Area. We are very excited about it as I will be again close to my parents and in familiar waters, while she is excited to live in the "big cities" and attend San Jose State getting her Master's degree. Yes, that is right! My girl is going to the top of the world! Muahaha...

As for me, I am still looking for a job, now more than a month since graduating. Contrary to claims by several people that I will find something, nothing has turned up. I had a chance to work at a national lab un UC Berkeley but they did not have sufficient funding, which was unfortunately. And then, there is a person who replied in response to that with "Bummer." Brilliant! Just fantastic.

I have been playing plenty of soccer, though, so I am keeping occupied and continuing my quest to get fit. I watched Real Madrid vs LA Galaxy the other day (Madrid won 2-0) and the commentators, while not failing to praise Real Madrid, did a hell of a job overestimating the LA Galaxy as putting on a gutsy performance and playing almost at the same level. What bullshit?! It was only a friendly game, at scorching US temperatures, during Real Madrid's offseason whereas LA is currently playing, and Real Madrid still managed to easily overcome them. If it was a competative game, then the Galaxy would have really been distorted and blown away. Then today, I watched DC United vs La Galaxy, and saw how the "impressive" Galaxy who bravely fought against Real Madrid couldn't handle a lifeless DC United team and lost 1-0 with a last minute goal by a 15-yr old kid (Freddy Adu). Which makes me laugh, knowing that now DC United will face Chelsea in a friendly. Chelsea, among the best in the world, will also not play their 100%. After all, isn't that why it is called a "friendly game?" Chelsea wouldn't want to embarrass DC United in front of their home crowd during a friendly. So whether they tie, or win by only 1-0, there is no way MLS teams can cope with European teams at the moment.

At the national level it is a different story. The US national team has plenty of quality players among the MLS teams, and probably a third from European-based teams. In addition, the US team has a chance to bond since approximately the same players play every year and they have more international competition than European nations. For example, the US plays in the Confederations Cup and in the Gold Cup, as well as it's own qualifiers. While American soccer is definitely on the rise, the MLS is still years away from the level of Europe's elite teams. For example, the DC United - LA Galaxy game I watched was absolutely terrible! There was barely any movement (regardless of weather, these people are in good shape and paid for that!), poor ball control, incredibly horrible decisions, frequently stupid fouls and hard tackles, almost no shot attempts until the last 10 minutes of the game. It was a waste seeing it for free on TV! Absolute crap!

I myself may not be a great football player, but I am not talking about myself. I am just comparing from actual facts. The fact is that the US may need more foreign talent if the MLS is to improve tactically and technically.
