The otter sanctuary was just brilliant!! It was a long day as it was about 80 miles there and back, but just so worth it.

We got there just in time for feeding and were taken to see the British otters first - they each had their own fenced off pond with grass banks all round and little shelters and rocks to sit on. They came right up to the wire fence to get their fish and were so energetic.

We then saw the Asian otters, most of which were pair bonded, so were sharing walled enclosures, again with pools and little houses to sleep in. They were much more talkative and kept playing and scrapping with each other. There was an older lady otter who spent a lot of time asleep so they had built a house for her where you could watch her sleeping through a pane of glass. Then the last enclosure was a family, one adult male, two females and three gorgeous cubs, about the size of a kitten - they were gamboling about and jumping into their little waterfall, then running inside, and were talking to each other by squeaking and chirping.

The park also had waterfowl, white and brown deer and 2 wallabies, all of which were totally used to people and just wandered up to you to say hello!

I had a sleep when we got back, then we went to the wedding which was very boring, but had a free bar, so that made up for it a bit!

We drove home yesterday and I was knackered when I got home - because the boyfriend's family have been here in Surrey so much for the funeral and now looking after his grandad, we hadn't been to Essex for ages, but because all his friends are there and too selfish to come here, we now have a load of similarly boring social events to go to. I am trying to get out of a leaving do at the company he left nearly a year ago - it's this Friday, and I am not about to work all week then drive up Friday night and stay out in Southend all night whilst a load of boring finance people talk about how boring their jobs are!

Then we've got a barbeque in a couple of weekends time with this couple, also in Essex - basically he is a tiler who works cash in hand and he got his Italian girlfriend pregnant with twins. As they aren't married, she got a two bedroom council flat in a new-build block, so worth about 200k, and he lived there without telling anyone. They have so much money from his work that they take about 3 holidays a year and have all the latest electronic gear and DVDs etc - and now they have moved to an even newer, bigger house because his name was on a co-op housing list, so he now pays, get this, £20 a week for the whole family to live there!!

My boyfriend and I work, I have never claimed any benefits in the 10 years I have been ill, and we can only afford to rent a tiny one-bed flat. How much does that suck!!

So we have to go to this barbeque and smile sweetly and say congratulations on your new house to them. Can't wait!!

Makes me wonder why I struggle on in full time work, trying to support myself and contribute to the bills, as well as helping to keep the flat clean and cook and iron, all to be so frigging tired at the end of it that I don't have any friends left, so all I can do is wear myself out visiting his friends in Essex and marvel at how much better off they bloody are!!!

Sorry, rant over!!
