I haven't been around lately. Let me tell you some things.
1. Work is piling up.
There's just crap loads upon crap loads of admin work to be done. Some processes here at work are just so inefficient. Half the time I think I'm doing someone else's job. I'm still learning though, least I'm not wasting my time.
But yeah, work > everything else right now :/
2. I bought a brand spanking new Macbook Pro.
Vera's still the beautiful computer she always was, but she was becoming so slow. Too slow with what I need her to do for the freelance work and work work I do :( As I'm classed as an educator (whoo) I get the education discount, which I used to upgrade new pretty from 4gb RAM to 8gb RAM. I restarted my comp after some updates and it seriously took less than 10 seconds. The speed on this machine is unheard of for me! Will be getting CS5 (no more CS3!) as soon as I'm paid next week. Yay for 30 day trial versions!
Compy still needs name. Also snagged a free ipod nano. Still iffy about ipod, but my previous mp3 player was 512mb, ran on batteries and is lost somewhere in my room :P
3. I embarrassed myself in public again.
Long story short; I was playing Pokemon Diamond on my DS on the train on Monday, sitting in the (very awesome) nigel onesie seat on the train. My joy was over when a giant spider crawled up the wall next to me. As any practicing arachnophobe would do, I screamed like a baby, lept up from my seat (almost bowling over random dude) and quivered in pure fear, avoiding eye contact with icky. Of course everyone turned around to face me like I was just murdered by something. Someone mentioned the spider which then made surrounding passengers tense. I muttered "wow that was embarrassing, glad I don't know anyone here" and walked upstairs for the remainder of the trip.
This is almost like last week where a spider crawled across the outside of my car I screamed all the way down the street. Must have been amusing for the guy in front of my if he looked in his mirror...
4. Health wise, I'm all over the shop.
A couple of weeks ago I felt like I could conquer the world. This week not so much. I was really getting down about it a month ago as it was interfering with work and my life too much. At the end of my rope, and at the suggestions of a few people I'm trying Traditional Chinese Medicine to see if it makes me feel better. I believe it has to be honest. The herbalist/specialist I'm seeing is really lovely. The herbs she makes up for me don't taste the best, but they're do-able and I honestly think they're making a difference. Acupuncture is quite relaxing, moreso than I thought.
What does get me down is that the bulk of my money goes to seeing all these specialists and medication. There's also work expenses, new comp and programs, petrol's a joke, health insurance, major car service, car insurance and I've been buying pretty much all my groceries. It's a rare occasion that I'm eating something that I haven't bought/made or myself. I am so grateful I don't have to pay rent :/
5. Vegan baby steps…
Vegan Easy (based in Melbourne) were holding a 30 day vegan challenge and as I've been a wannabe, but never had the final push to actually do it vegan, I'm trying it out. At the risk of sounding crazy, I feel as like a weight has lifted from my body. I feel at peace with what I'm eating as cruelty-free as I can. I feel confident that I'm doing the right thing, environmentally and ethically. Sure there's been 'accidents' where it wasn't until after the fact I realised something had animal in it, but I'm trying super hard to keep to it C: It's the same feeling when I officially went veg*n. There's been so much yummy vegan food I've cooked, plus I have a recipe for vegan doughnuts that i have to bake asap!
It can be tricky when I'm out and nothing around is vegan, but overall, I love this. I really do.
6. Dragon Age 2 came out last week.
And I still haven't finished my first play through…
Tl;dr version: Work, Macbook Pro, spiders, health issues, vegan, Dragon Age 2.
