My Rants about SSI

Dec 20, 2010 10:19

There are two kinds of people. Those that wait for things to happen and those that does something about it. I’ve been debating with myself whether to post this or not. A lot of my friends and even my mom told me not to post this but it gets a bit tempting to do something you’re not supposed to. So here I am posting what I really think about SSI.
I know SSI helps a lot of people with disabilities, who are unemployed but the question is, are they just going to allow the government to give them hand outs from everyone’s taxes? So what would these people do if the government decides to stop supplementing them with SSI? I don’t care if you’re blind or if you have a kid to take care of. Everybody shares different struggles but at some point, they manage. I think, everyone should be obligated to work. What about those with severe disabilities or those with mental retardation? Well, those are an exception because those people cannot think for themselves and they cannot control their own behaviors because they’re unaware that their doing something wrong. And what about the homeless people, the government, don’t give them handouts? And what about the majority of people who work full time and pay their taxes just to support governmental programs such as welfare and SSI. Put yourself in our shoes, what if you were working full time and some of the money you get from your paycheck gets deducted for tax purposes, What would you feel? Why does this group have to be an exception? Because companies, employers and coworkers are hesitant to allow this group of people to work that they would rather allow them to use some of the tax money to sustain their living expenses. $ 700.00 is a fixed amount enough to pay low income housing, utilities, water & electric bills, phone, cable & internet bills and some occasional dinners. Is that really enough to live on? Yes, it’s enough to survive on $ 700.00 especially if you have food stamps to help you with your groceries but the question is, are you happy with that amount? It won’t allow you to work and it puts you down. The sad part about it is that when these people try to look for a job while they are getting SSI, their monthly checks gets deducted, that’s probably why most people decide to get SSI instead of working. Is it a really dead end decision resulting to nothing or is it just a personal choice or just plain laziness?
I don’t mean to offend anyone but it’s really irritating. I noticed, some of the people that get SSI don’t even try to look for jobs or go back to school. They got so used to their so called life, sitting around, collecting money from the government, and hanging out online on AIM or MSN the whole damn day. And that’s what you call fun? I call it hopeless. I would rather make tons of mistakes, when figuring out the right job for me, and learn from it rather than to allow myself to get used to receiving hand outs. Here’s the deal, there is a big difference between having a choice to get hand outs and not having a choice but to get a job and to support yourself. Look, it’s so simple; it’s like being rich and poor. The rich kid never understood the meaning of worrying about money problems, because he has enough money to live on. But then, the rich kid got too much of his parents handouts, he wanted more and he ended up greedy, spoiled and unproductive. The poor kid will never have a choice. He has to make do of what he has. Whether he likes it or not, he has to work to support himself. And if he’s not happy with where he is, he has to go through a career change, a new job, go back to college or start a small business to make it happen for himself. Sitting around never make things happen.
In my opinion, life is about trying and working hard for what you have. But if you just get free money, when do you get motivated to try?

I don’t give a damn. Whether I was eligible or not, I will never collect SSI from the government. I would rather live on a tight budget than spend the money, I didn’t work for. I know lots of people use SSI for the better like parents who use the money to raise their children, students who use it for school or elderly who use it to survive. I can understand the elderly, but I can’t understand the excuses that people make, just to avoid themselves from working.
Seriously, snap out of it. Start saving your own money, try and look for a job and start earning your monthly salary. Easier said than done, well, of course, I know that but applying for a couple of jobs is not trying. You should really assert yourself and do something about your situation.

The world doesn’t owe you anything stop being complacent.
