Spring

This afternoon Northshore Mass. is sunny and in the low 50s. Tonight, it's supposed to snow half a foot. Nonetheless, it's April 10th already. Shocking, isn't it?

Learning Greek is wonderful. For once, I'm actually doing very well in learning a language (Spanish was a disaster). I'm thinking, to keep up my Greek, I'll translate 1 John through the summer. Working with 1 John is a fairly standard project that some do in 1st year, but that we're not doing. So, I figure, why not translate the whole thing?

I've decided to read Being and Time this summer. I'll likely make it a June project, though I can expect to read it at about 4 pages a day. It will be a good excersize, seeing as Heidegger is an extremely important personality in early 20th century thought. What's really troubling about him is his insistence on avoiding "theo-ontology"--in other words, searching for what's really real is searching for a God we can't know. All we can do is build a monument to him (which, in his case, I think we could call "Being"). Interestingly, Heidegger was nearly ordained a Catholic priest. Now that's troubling.

It appears that I will be spending a chunk of the summer in Upland working at TNT Fireworks. This is, one, because I don't have any money left (good reason I suppose). Two, there's only one class offered 1st summer term that I need. Three, the logistics boss tells me I can start driving in late May.

Ok. List done. More later.
