Currently, this Pinsky translation of Paul Celan's "Love Crown" is one of my favorites. Hopefully someone appreciates it as much as I do. I'll just give a couple lines.

"Now autumn nibbles its leaf from my hand: we are friends.
We take time out of a nutshell and teach it to go:
time turns and goes back into its shell.

....It is time that the stone let itself break into flower,
that the unresting have a heartbeat.
It is time there was time.
It is time."

Mass is an interesting place. I'm starting to like it up here, but it's much different from the midwest. It will, though, take awhile to get settled.

A few things about Boston and the northshore:1) there is a lot of history up here, which I really appreciate. 2)People have no clue how to drive and don't understand the concept of "right of way." In fact, I've already heard a few out of staters (no seminarians, don't worry) refer to drivers as Mass-holes. 3)People are very reserved up here, some would say downright rude. You have to earn their trust I think. Or maybe they're just Mass-holes.

I went into Boston last night and watched the Sox play the Yankees in a cool little pub. I fairly certain that if I had worn a Yankee's hat in there I would have been jumped. People HATE the Yankees up here. It's something.

Right now I'm reading Schleiermacher and books for class. Grad school is ridiculous in that profs have no qualms about asking you to purchase and read an entire book for the next class (which would usually give you a week), so I don't have a lot of time to read. I'm also, really for the first time, going to do some in-depth examinations of individual thinkers like, maybe, Luther. Gin, if I become a Catholic, it's too late.

If you would, I would appreciate a little prayer about direction. You know, what I'm to do while I'm here (I might take a position as a paid worship leader, but I'm kinda thinking I don't want to go to that church. That's one example.).

If anyone wants to call, my number is 765-506-7152. You may or may not catch me with my phone on. You're best bet is either a weekend or after 8pm (when I get out of work) on Wed-Fri.
