D'you know what? I just can't get into "My Space.com".
That was just a thought. Now for the real entry:
Selling my property has been more stressful than I ever anticipated. There was this lady who arranged a viewing. I was quite excited about her coming to see the place because she sounded promising (I got a good vibe from her).
Anyway, about 10 minutes before she was due to arrive, I thought I'd turn the heating up a bit as it was a bit chilly. So as I've turned the knob on the radiator up a bit, I hear a cracking noise, then the next thing you know water just starts gushing everywhere. It was coming from the area of the knob. I tried to turn it off, but it made no difference. So then I start panicking and saying out loud "Please God, no. Don't let this be happening to me!!!! But sure enough it WAS happening and I didn't have a clue what to do about it. The only thing I could think of was to ring a handyman friend of mine, and just HOPE that he would get there before the lady arrived to fix it. I wanted him to say to me "Oh that's easy to fix, all you have to do is ....
Whilst I was awaiting his arrival, the lady showed up. It was SO humiliating. On one hand there's me trying to sell my place to her, and on the other, there's a dodgy radiator pumping water from it's pipes into pots and pans on the floor. To make matters worse it was an upstairs room. So this water could potentially ruin both floor and downstairs ceiling at the same time.
I did explain to her that I had a plumber on the way. And she DID say "Oh don't worry about that ..." but what else was she supposed to say?? As she was leaving she said "I'll think about it." Yep, nice brush off.
So there you go - sale LOST.
My friend turned up about 10 minutes after she'd left but it was too late by then. I felt so dejected. It turned out to be a minor problem in the end. He knew exactly what to do to remedy it. All in all it took about half an hour to fix (and that was only because we had to drive to the DIY store to buy a new part for the radiator). But I stil felt miserable.
Talk about bad timing huh? Why do things always go wrong when you so DESPERATELY need for them to go right?
Well, I dunno what happened, but somehow things turned around. The lady rang me a couple of weeks later and said her main concern had been about the property's centrality - but after a bit of research she found it was ideal for her because of her work location: she was desperate to buy it! BINGO!!!!! When I heard this news I was as high as a kite. All my fretting over the busted radiator had been in vain after all.
I am very pleased she wants to buy the place. However, even though she's after a speedy transaction, this doesn't mean to say that the radiator incident was the end of the problems. Sometimes I feel like I'm banging my head against a brick wall. At the moment things are okay and SEEM to be moving along, but on Thursday I have the lender's surveyor coming over. Gosh, I'm PRAYING, there are no other problems.
I never thought I'd say it but I'll be glad when I see the back of that place. It doesn't have a lot of happy memories for me.
