[series]: Soul Eater
[character]: Soul Eater Evans

Soul Eater Evans is a weapon, well, actually a black and red Demon Scythe to be precise. He is able to transform from human to scythe on a whim, as well as having only various parts of his body transform into a blade, like his arm, for example for any quick jobs. Soul also comes from a family of musicians known for their exceptional talent, but he is the only one within his family who can transform into a weapon. He also has an older brother named Wes, who Soul feels inferior too because of his superb talent in the violin and as a musician. Did I mention Soul can play the piano?

He is a student at the Shinigami Weapon Meister Vocational School, or Shibusen for short. Now, to explain, in Shibusen the students are partnered weapons and meisters, the person wielding said weapon. Basically, the goal for any meister-weapon relationship is to serve the headmaster, the god of Death himself, Shinigami by harvesting, in Soul’s case, eating, ninety-nine evil souls and one witch soul to become the most powerful weapon, the Deathscytche.

Maka Albarn, a bookish sort of teenager, is currently his partner. Though how they met was never established, Soul was playing the piano whenever they did, playing a “dark, strange song” for her, saying it reflected the type of guy he was. They get along, to say the least. Though they end up bickering every now and so-often, Soul trusts Maka with his life and isn’t afraid to say or show that he would die for her. He also isn’t afraid to make fun of her bra size, but that’s a whole other story together.

In the past they actually did succeed in collecting ninety-nine evil souls when they encountered Blair, thinking she was actually a witch. Unfortunately, upon defeating and devouring her soul, the duo finds out that she was merely a cat with magical powers and their counter resets to zero.

They also have an ability to “resonate” with each other, meaning that their soul waves sync up to each other, thus amplifying their power to transform Soul into an upgraded scythe, the Witch Hunter. Their first time accomplishing such a feat occurred just after they realized their soul count was at a staggering zero souls when Shinigami had them look into the disappearance of Sid, the teacher-turned-zombie from Shibusen, along with their fellow classmates, Black ☆ Star and Tsubaki, his weapon.

After Sid’s capture, thanks to the combined efforts of the four, they stumble upon the home of Doctor Franken Stein, where they would find a difficult battle ahead. The four find that Doctor Stein is quite formidable when Black ☆ Star is down for the count, leaving Soul and Maka to take the task of defeating him. Coaxing an apprehensive Maka back into the fight, the duo perform their Witch Hunter technique again only to injure their group even more. With Maka on the ground, gravely injured, Soul stands his ground and shields her, saying that he would die to protect his meister. It was only after this that the four realized that this was actually a lesson plotted by Shinigami to test them.

There is also Black Blood that courses through Soul’s body. This occurs during Soul and Maka’s showdown with the Demon Sword, Ragnarok and Chrona, a growing Demon god, in a church in Italy when the first two were starting to collect their ninety-nine souls once again. They met Chrona just after it had defeated and ate many human souls and their new mission was to annihilate the birth of Demon gods otherwise known as Kishin. The battle was fierce and led to Soul receiving an almost life-ending wound slashed across his chest when he tried to save Maka from being caught in it herself. Fortunately, for the both of them, team Franken Stein, now Professor Stein at Shibusen, and Deathscythe, Maka’s father, cleaned up the youngsters’s fight and took care of Chrona.

While Soul was a patient at the school’s clinic, Medusa, a witch who disguised herself as Shibusen’s nurse, deduces that the Black Blood that gave Chrona its strength in battle now flowed through Soul’s blood. This blood enables monstrous strength and agility, which sounds great at first, but it causes the person with it and people who come in contact with it to lose themselves and inevitably go insane. Medusa was actually quite thrilled that the Black Blood was so close because it was, in fact, her experiment to start with and by having a specimen to examen in close proximities, just made it that much easier.

During his stay, Soul told Medusa of a strange, reoccurring dream he was having while recovering in the clinic. There was a room furnished with black and red furniture in the middle of absolute darkness. In the room there was a phonograph playing a cheesy jazz record that would always skip. Then, out from the black shadows of the curtain, an odd red imp would strut out while doing an offbeat dance. Soul said he stayed in that room because, whenever he would venture out, there would be a pitch black abyss and light that would lead him right out of Maka’s stomach, ripping her apart. Medusa dismisses it as a silly dream, though she knows the truth about the Black Blood.

After a needed rest at the hospital, Soul and Maka begin a training regimen, upon Maka’s request to Professor Stein. The Professor warned them that it was possible that they could never match soul wavelengths again. When Maka confirmed their participation, Soul seemed against it, seeing as she never talked about it over with him in the first place. The training only adds discord to their already tense relationship after their previous battle. During their time “training”, Soul brought up the fact that Maka had been acting weird, saying that a technician having to train to get stronger to protect the weapon was strange. She countered by asking why he didn’t wish to get stronger; but it wasn’t that he didn’t want to get stronger. He kept thinking about that imp in his subconscious, in his dreams, who told him to lose himself to gain power, but never answered her.

Their next assignment with Black ☆ Star and Tsubaki was in London, where they met Free, an immortal who could use magic. When team Black ? Star is out for the count, it’s Soul and Maka’s turn to try and defeat him. At first Soul attacks Free when he’s off-guard, but when his scythe-arm alone did nothing against the immortal, Maka decided to call him back for a team effort - if only it would have worked. Because of their training exercise beforehand, their wavelengths were out of sync, meaning that Maka couldn’t hold Soul’s scythe form anymore; he was too hot to hold.

When the battle continued, Maka tried again to hold soul again and tolerated the pain in her hands and fought Free to the best she could. Soul protested, telling her to calm down, but his technician only fought back with her words. Tsubaki, would had been watching them from the sidelines, snapped them out of their spattering. The duo realized that they needed to grow stronger together and it was here that Soul gave the ‘okay’ to the little demon to give feed him a little power. They begin Soul Resonance and the Black Blood that ran through Soul’s blood now ran in Maka’s. Soul started to feel like he was losing control, but pulled himself back to sanity. The battle ended with Free down and their wavelength restored.

As if battles weren’t enough, Professor Stein announced a SUPER test in class and Soul only started studying a little less than a week beforehand. Cooped up in his room, it turned out that he in fact had not been studying, but creating a super cheat sheet consisting of his entire wardrobe. “Anyone who takes this seriously is an idiot,” he reasoned. Since he’d started late in studying, he thought that cheating would be the only way to be on level ground with Maka and Oxford. Besides, it wasn’t like he was going to get caught - or so he thought. Sid, who had been proctoring, had him stripped of his clothes. Needless to say, he didn’t pass the test. Not cool at all.

A founding ceremony for Shibusen was held place not too long afterwards and of course the team attended, though Soul kept the balcony company for most of the time. Waiting in line for food was too long and he’d prefer to sit while eating, so it was annoying to him. Maka came to accompany him with a plate of food and asked him to open up to her, but he laughed her off. As Maka’s father pulled her onto the dance floor, she told Soul to guard her plate full of food she didn’t like. Strange - until he realized she had gotten it for him.

Then Sid crashed the party, yelling that everyone was in danger. Medusa had started with her plan to trap everyone, including Shinigami, with magic. Luckily though, Sid was able to save Maka, Soul, Liz, Patty, Death the Kid, Black ? Star, Tsubaki, Professor Stein, and later Death Scythe. They were all to defend Shibusen against Witch Medusa, Free, Eruka, and Chrona. Soul knew that with where his team stood, he would have to face the decision of whether or not to rely on the power of Black Blood again.

The decision came when, instead of listening to Professor Stein’s orders to go after Eruka and Free, Maka decided to stay back and fight Chrona even if they were at a disadvantage; it was for revenge. Though both Maka and Soul were determined to beat Ragnarok and their Black Blood, they were doing no better damage than their last battle. Again the imp appeared, speaking of the balance of power and sanity and how you can’t have one completely without losing the other. He even brought Maka into that room where both tech and weapon came to the conclusion - they would use the Black Blood and Soul would definitely bring Maka back from the brink of insanity.

With the fighting ground now leveled, Soul found the madness to be intense. He could feel the both of them losing their sanity as the battle lounged on. Maka soon realized that Chrona was actually alone, not knowing how to deal with things because of her loneliness. Letting go of Soul, Maka ran over to Chrona and embraced her, asking her to be friends. Soul just watched from afar. The battles raged elsewhere under the basement of Shibusen, but despite everyone’s best efforts, the Kishin, that Shibusen had been hiding under its floors, had escaped.

And I will be stopping his canon here.

[character abilities]:
Can be found here. Just his Blade skill for now until he gets updated later on in the game and/or a Maka arrives. He can’t do much without his partner.

[character personality]:
The only thing Soul would want anyone to remember about him is how cool of a guy he is, but the definition of the word “cool” is relative, isn’t it?

To be more precise, he could fit the cliche “as cool as a cucumber”, but not in a corny sounding way. Very level-headed at times, he doesn’t let the intensity of the moment get the best of him. He’ll accept it, think, then figure out a way to get around it. Most of the time, he needs to tell Maka to get a hold of herself when she’s freaking out, which is probably why they make a good team. Soul also finds it amusing to pick on her as well, calling her flat-chested, not cute, and being a girl with thick ankles. He also loves devouring souls as well, which has him running straight into a situation concerning his line of work without much of a thought-this also leads to some of the fights with Maka, but it all usually ends well. Usually.

Though Soul picks on her, he can be very protective, strong, brave, and caring when the situation calls for it. Throughout the series, he didn’t give a moment’s hesitation when he had to protect his technician. Repeatedly he told anyone that comes close to delivering her the deathblow that he’d be willing to die for her. He also kept a cap on the Black Blood and getting stronger even though it could have been the easier route to Death Scythe just to keep Maka from going insane. This proves that he can be loyal and trustworthy to any of his comrades.

Mostly though, he enjoys taking it easy and hates when things are a bother. Things that don’t make sense to him, frustrate him - long lines; loud, obnoxious people; and even annoying technicians that won’t shut up about who knows what can get his blood boiling. And, you know what? He’ll tell it to you straight if it’s rubbing him the wrong way even though it’ll probably cost him karma points later. He can also be very sarcastic, quick to throw in comments when he sees fit. Even Professor Stein commented that his soul was of “a twisted person with a sarcastic soul”.

Summarily, he’s just like any prideful teenage boy who’s going through puberty. His nose will bleed if there is a bust-equipped woman before him and he won’t be very open about his feelings, but he’s actually a nice guy. Well, for a soul-lusting weapon at least.

[journal post]:
[There’s a shake of the device as a white-haired teenager centers the camera on himself. It’s at a slight angle above him as he’s squatting. Surroundings are dark and to everyone on the network, it seems like he’s in an alleyway. He’s got a good number of scratches and bumps on him; a mark that he’s been in battle recently.]

So. You guys can hear me, right? [There’s a skeptical glare at the screen.] Right, so. Some pretty uncool things happened and I gotta ask you folks a couple of questions.

First - anyone of you know how to get back to a place called Shibusen or better yet the Death Weapon Meister Academy? DMWA for short. It’s in Death City, Nevada, so I need to know how far it is from here. I need to get back there ASAP which leads me to my second question.

Have you guys seen a flat chested girl in light brown twin tails? She’s got really thick ankles and has the temper of a fuse.

[There’s some silence as he contemplates his questions, but simply ends with a shrug]

That’s all. Keep the answers short and sweet.

[third person / log sample]:

It was one of those days, the quiet ones where they didn’t have any missions, the ones where the hours breezed by slowly, the ones where he could do whatever he wanted without anyone around. Soul had a partner and friends, but strolls outside by himself were perfectly cool with him too. On these ventures he wouldn’t travel too far, but far enough where he’d feel satisfied.

He was on his way back from one, actually - a quick trip to the market for dinner and a shortcut through the park - when something caught his eye. Well, look at that - a vintage record shop. It must have been new if he hadn’t seen it in this part of town. Without much hesitation and a quick step back, he pocketed his hands snuggly into his jacket and waltzed over not noticing the slight spring in his step.

The bell chimed upon his entrance and he gave the storeowner a quick nod as props for the cool store he’d opened up. Though it was new, the substance was vintage - just his kind of thing. Pearly white fangs made their debut under that heaping of white messy hair as he shifted through the music.
Slowly, his smile went away as his thoughts ran from him. A violin album.
He thought about his brother, his family, and what he left behind before the Academy. He thought about his grandmother and what he left behind.

The bell chimed again as he left. A lonely jazz record laid in the plastic bag, hanging alongside the bag of food he’d bought earlier. The town bells rang soon afterwards, just as the sun sat upon the roofs west of where he was.

“Geez, had it gotten that late, already?”

Food and record bags swayed as he quickened his steps. This little shortcut had taken longer than he thought and he didn’t want to be any minute later. It was his turn to cook tonight and he could already feel the indent of the heavy book-binding beating Maka would ensue upon his head if he forgot. As Soul reached the corner, he reached out for the lamp post pole and used it to turn the corner, landing on his feet with a grin as he did.

“Soul! You’re late!” As if on cue, a small twin-tailed hair girl poked her head out of the window with an exasperated look on her face. “I’ve been studying all day. When’s dinner going to be ready?”

Stepping up to the door, he just shakes his head before calling out. “Can’t you be cool and wait? I just got home.”

And before she could retort back, he closed the door behind him, wondering if she’d want some jazz with her dinner.
