Unhelpful Ingrates
I'm a harry/draco shipper through and through. I try others from time to time but always come back to them so there's no denying it to myself. I've also found I love long fics and the longer the better. Hence Kimberjingle's epic fics over on Yahoo Groups of minimum 600 pages are right up my street. romaine24romaine24 's Double Edge Sword was so awesome and so long *drools*. I've read so many great and long fics.
Most authors give their readers a short summary of their fic and I like that special touch but sometimes when you discover obscure fics from authors who may have left the fandom you don't get that. It gets lost along the way when fics are taken down or moved to some little known archive that Google clings to by a thread.
Anyway I've just discovered "The Draco Dormiens Trilogy" by Cassandra Claire who I understand has left the fandom now and done her level best to take all her work with her. I have no problems with that. It's her prerogative. These 3 fics are very long and Harry/Draco eventually end up together. Heaven sent I say and I assume they must be good as there are even LJ Community's dedicated to the Trilogy. Well .....
All I asked for on one of these Comms was a short fic summary; two may be three lines tops. It helps especially as I'm in the middle of a long lomonaaerentrilogy lomonaaeren 's 'An Intellectual Affair' - more awesomeness going on there.
So, for my trouble I get one unhelpful ingrate telling me "why don't you, oh I don't know, read the fics and you'll find out." Said random unhelpful ingrate then proceeds to presume they know me by stating I must hate long fics and am just too lazy to read them and the reason why nobody else has replied (in 24 hrs) is that they think the same as them. Such fucking arrogance!
I ask - why do people have to be so difficult and miserable? All they had to say was "sorry, can't help but good luck with the search" or better yet, don't bother saying anything at all. What is wrong with some people? Did that person have a bad day? We all have them. Express it and I'll send a hug to try and make that person feel better but don't take it out on others.
I've been on LJ a couple of years now and never experienced this as everyone is always so nice. Tell me, have I just been lucky so far? We are a great bunch aren't we?
