It takes a lot of work to do manga coloring, but sure it's fun! you should give it a try when you have time, I think cyan posted some references before~ but there are also amazing manga icons out there even without coloring it :O
As vai_rin mentioned, I did put together an inspiration post with references to some great manga coloring tutorials, and also some techniques for using the scans without needing to learn how to color them first.
And, I feel the need to add, your sense of coloring and lighting in general would probably lend itself well to creating some beautiful manga-based icons. Maybe play with monochromatic color schemes at first? It's a little less time-consuming and all you have to worry about is the light source XD
All that to say; if it's something that you're interested in, go for it!
