"I am what survives of me." (Erickson)

It’s interesting how our capacity to absorb life-changes increases with time. The growing sense of calmness and confidence in ‘things working out’ allows us to deal with life’s occasional points of inflection more easily as we get older. Welcome back to El Jay land. You'd been missed.

I'm of course glad to hear that you don't find turning 70 particularly threatening. Just don't be, err, too non-threatened. People are living longer and longer these days.

Erikson tells me that my current challenge is intimacy v. isolation, and apparently I work on career 'generativity' next. Oops. Best not to take developmental psych theorists too too seriously.

With the springtime upon us, I'll write more. Even as I approach my 25,567th day on Friday.

An early happy birthday to you! There's no reason the extra attention can't start right this second. %)

Thanks Eric ... The grandson (and his 'Thomas & Friends trains) arrived today. Choo - choo.
I'm preparing for my 'birthday-trip' to Chile and will post some things about the people/places I've encountered in distant places. As you know, travelling to new places is a wonderful 'growth-catalyst' - particularly at your stage. Have a great year.

Merci beaucoup, Monsieur Apps.
I wonder if you're related to one of Canada's great hockey legends - Syl Apps of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Later, he was a Member of Parliament in Ontario for many years.

Good to hear from you, and I wish you a happy birthday. No better way to celebrate the occasion than to be surrounded with friends and family. (Attentive friends and family, no less!)

Thank you, Steven. The 'surrounding' began today.
I tell people that it's my 'birthweek', rather than a mere 'birthday'. That way I get Starbucks in bed all week long.

Thank you for your many teachings, as you have taught these fine young children who have grown into whole beings of their own.
