Shit I forgot about Kaen and Yoshito gettin affected so yeah gettin loved by or lovin the Earl isn't as bad as gettin Kaen.

For some people it looked like hidden mutal feelings and others like you said random targetting....maybe the spell was suppose to work both ways to confuse the shit out of everybody so nobody knows for fuckin sure....maybe Kaen and Yoshito were fakin it too to add to the mind-fuck.
