Korean, Jap, and Pancakes all rolled into one

I. Can't. Sleep.

And because of this, I have decided not to be lazy and start posting my extremely long overdue entry. The weeks in melbourne have indeed passed by in a blur. And I am not missing home, save for the asian soups like ban mian, beef noodle soup and of course, the Singaporean Accent. 6 weeks left in Melbourne and I don't want to go home! What am I gonna do without my weekly branches, fantastic coffee and the sometimes-welcoming winter cold?

To clarify any worries about the H1N1 virus, the victorian government is NOT a single bit worried about it here. I'm not sure about the figures, but the H1N1 has moved on to become more like a flu pandemic, so rest assured. Singapore is a bit too paranoid.

Last week, we had asian food for dinner on friday at a restaurant called Umehana along Elizabeth street. The food was alright. Which means it wasn't fantastic. It's a fusion japanese-korean restaurant, packed with Asians. And although the extensive menu seems to promise much, you're so spoilt for choice. The food, frankly speaking is just OK.

This was my "i'm not very impressed" curry udon, the pork was a little bit too charred at first so we sent it back.

And the bimbimbap, which according to pam and sze ling, who have tried better, was nothing fantastic.

That's pam and sze!
Of course, big eaters as we always are, dessert really made up for it. Trooping down to pancake parlour, having a laughing along the way in front of the cranky mirror just outside the restaurant, we were treated to a feast of pancakes, thanks to both Pam's and Szeling's coupons which got us a 1 for 1 short stack of pancakes and a Rhubarb and Raspberry pancake with vanilla mascarpone cheese...

It was just so good. You know that feeling you get when you feel so content, and you sigh in satisfaction? Piping hot fluffy pancakes on a cold winter's day, couple with a generous scoop of ice cream, with copious amounts of Maple Syrup. I also have a soft spot for anything vanilla.

And my little creation this weekend... STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE! Which I made for a birthday celebration at church. The cream here is a lot better and cheaper too, so it's easy to make fantastic strawberry shortcake over here. And the best thing? The weather. For once I don't have to get worked up about whether the cream will melt, or dissolve or whatever. The cake stays in perfect condition, beckoning to be eaten.
