Piper was 25 today. Wasn't it just yesterday she was a senior at Fandom High and turning 18? Though that was actually a birthday she'd still like to forget ( Read more... )

Wyatt was a good son who knew his mother's birthday. Even if said mother was only a few years older than him. And he still had news to give her, which he wanted to give in person instead of email or phone.

He orbed to the hotel Hyperion with Isabel and knocked on Piper's door.

Isabel had one arm looped around Wyatt's waist and was holding a cheerfully wrapped gift in the other. "This will be fun."

Piper walked over to open the door, smiling when she saw who was standing there. "Hi! This is a nice surprise."

"Hey, Mom," Wyatt said, giving her a big hug. "Happy birthday."

"Happy birthday Piper," Isabel grinned as she waited her turn to give her mother-in-law a hug. "We brought presents."

"Thank you," Piper said, gratefully accepted hugs from both. "And I always appreciate presents."

Who didn't?

"Well, we got you this present" -- Wyatt pointed his chin at the box in Isabel's hand, and by "we" he meant Isabel picked it out -- "and another surprise." He grinned at Isabel.

Wyatt was such a dork. She handed the gift over (For the record, a very fancy set of kitchen knives) and bit her lip. "So how do you feel about being a grandma at twenty-five?"

Fancy knives were some of Piper's favorite kitchen accessories. But at the moment, she had to put them down on the table before dropping them. Because she just now comprehended Isabel's last words. "Wait...does this mean...?"

Then there was the squeeing. Or something like it.

She was too excited for brain breaking right now. That was for later.

"A few years early and a couple of dimensions over, but yeah, you're going to be a grandmother," Wyatt laughed.

He was entitled to be a big ol' dork about this.

Be as dorky as you'd like Wyatt but pamper your wife when she needs it.

"I feel like we're going to need a three dimensional family tree."

[You saw nothing!!!]

Piper chuckled. "I might be able to conjure one of those up."

Personal gain be damned.

This called for more hugs. "I'm so happy for both of you."

"We're pretty happy about it, too," Wyatt said. He'd been grinning for days after Isabel told him the news.

"If Fandom's given us a real sneak preview, it's going to be a girl, but we'll love her -- him -- them -- no matter what."

"Pretty happy?" Isabel teased. "He lost the power of speech when I told him."

"I can understand that." Piper was sorta speechless herself. Squeeing didn't count as actual speech, right?

"You know I'm going to love her or him or them, too" she added. "And I'm going to spoil my grandchild."

Maybe her head was starting to hurt a little after saying that out loud. But it was worth it.

"Grandpa Victor told me about all kinds of wacky stuff I apparently did while I was in the womb," Wyatt said. "The next few months are going to be fun."
