Restaurant to Hyperion, Sunday

Dec 11, 2011 20:16

When Piper reappeared, she was still on the floor. The server she had just bumped into was about to drop a bunch of glass wear she'd been carrying. Just a few moments ago, or so it seemed to her, that same server had been engulfed in black clouds of nothing. It didn't take her long to realize what was happening. Somehow, everything had been ( Read more... )

Once Lindsey had popped back into being and had a few moments (while running) to process what that meant, he stopped and pulled out his phone.

It had to work now, didn't it?
She had to be at the other end and she had to pick up and she had to be okay. There wasn't another option.

Piper glanced at the caller I.D. on her phone before answering, relieved and happy at seeing the name that was there.

"Lindsey?" she asked, hopeful. "Are you really there?"

She had to make sure she wasn't just imagining this.

"I've been here," Lindsey said, trying to ignore the catch in his voice. Well, aside from yesterday and today when he'd been Nothinged he'd been here. "Oh god. I...don't ever do that again."

Piper was so relieved to hear his voice. Technically, for her, it hadn't been that long since she had. But she knew this was a very different situation. "I won't. I promise."

As long as there weren't creepy dark clouds...

"Good. You can't. I can't handle that again. You were gone." Lindsey was kind of stuck on that. "Where are you now?"

"You won't have to, because I'm not going anywhere," Piper assured. "I'm at the hotel right now. The lobby. Just kind of waiting."

She thought more about what he said. "How long was I gone?"

Checking the date hadn't quite been on her mind.

"Too long," Lindsey answered. "I...what day is it? I called you before Thanksgiving and you were gone. The 23rd. Last I knew it was the 9th."

Piper checked the date on her phone to confirm that. Which she couldn't. "It's December 11 now..."

That meant he had been taken by whatever that was, too. That wasn't exactly welcome news, but it seemed everything worked out. "I'm so glad you're okay and that I'm talking to you and...I need to see you."

She had been trying so hard to keep it together. She wasn't sure how long that would last.

Lindsey was going to take a moment to process how he'd apparently lost 2 days, if that's okay.

"The 11th, huh. What the hell. I'm here. Fandom. I'll get to you as soon as I can. I promise."

Piper was doing the opposite. She didn't want to process that she had been gone for nearly three weeks. Not yet, anyway.

"You better keep that promise."

"There is nothing I want more right now than to see you," Lindsey assured her. "Nothing."

"Good." Piper smiled, her voice finally cracking a bit. "I'll be waiting."

"Not really trusting portals at the moment," Lindsey said. "I'll see if I can sweet talk my way to a demon taxi ride."

"They have to come home anyway," Piper replied. "An extra passenger shouldn't be a problem."

She smirked. "Or I can just bribe him with brownies."

Some things never changed.

"Brownies usually work. Whatever it takes."

"Whatever it takes," Piper repeated. Just as long as the end result was the right one.
