Piper had said
goodbye to a lot of people today, but there was one goodbye that had been missing. There was no way she could leave without saying goodbye to her sister.
Phoebe had been telling herself that she hadn't come to say goodbye to her sister because there had been all of the angst and drama going on this week. She had told herself that dealing with the premonitions this week and what happened with Cole and Blair had kept kept her too busy and freaked out to go say goodbye.
It was all a lie.
Truth was, she thought if she never said goodbye, then Piper couldn't leave Fandom... or her.
But now, it was hitting her hard. No matter what she did or didn't do, Piper would be leaving that night.
Sniffling, she knocked lightly on her sister's door for the final time.
Piper slowly got up and went over to open the door, giving her sister a small smile when she saw her standing there. "I was wondering when you'd stop by."
Phoebe bit her lip.
"I thought if I didn't come say goodbye you couldn't leave," she said lamely.
I'm not gonna cry, I'm not gonna cry, Piper thought to herself. "Hey, I'll be an orb or a shimmer away, right? You know you can visit whenever you want."
Phoebe forced herself to smile...albeit a small one. "You don't think Paige or Cole will get annoyed with being an interdimensional taxi service each time I feel I need my big sister?"
Don't cry. Don't make it harder for her.
Piper snickered a bit. "Maybe, but they'll know better than to keep us apart."
Phoebe nodded. "Yeah, they don't want to do that."
"I think Paige, at least, gets that," Piper added. "Of course, we can always run the phone bill up if we have to."
Phoebe's lips twitched. "That's true... and there's always e-mail."
Piper nodded, still trying not to cry. "Yeah, so we'll have plenty of excuses to talk..."
She caught sight of the Book of Shadows sitting on her bed. Quietly, she reached for it. "I think you need this more than I do."
That simple act caused tears to fill her eyes and to start slipping down her face.
"What am I going to do without you here?" she asked as she ran a hand over the Book.
Finally, Piper's eyes began to fill with tears as well. "You'll be the best witch you can be. I know it. And I know you'll take good care of that Book."
She'd probably take better care of the Book than she took care of herself.
"I don't want you to go," she said softly. "You're my big sister, my best friend. I need you here."
"I have to go," Piper said, barely audible. "You'll be okay. You still have people here who care about you."
"Not like you."
"Like I said, anytime you need me, you can visit or call or..." Piper knew it wouldn't be the same.
Phoebe was trying so hard not to make Piper feel worse.
"Can you visit, too?"
Piper smiled through her tears. "Nothing can keep me away from you, especially if you need me."
This wasn't good as Phoebe was totally losing the don't cry battle.
"I'm hoping maybe you can come back with Grams during Parents weekend?"
"I think that can probably be arranged," Piper said, nodding. "Maybe I can even come back for Homecoming."
"Can I ask a favor?"
Piper nodded. "Of course you can."
"Cole... and Grams. She's going to find out sometime and I really hate keeping something from her... especially someone so important to me."
"I wasn't planning on telling her about him, if that's what you're worried about."
Phoebe waved a hand through the air. "I know that, but that's not what I mean. Could you maybe start perhaps dropping comments about what a nice and caring guy I'm dating now...?"
Piper grinned. "Yeah, sure. I can do that."
"I don't want to lose him... and Grams killing him..."
"It doesn't matter who any of us date. Grams will always want to kill them," Piper said, trying to lighten the mood. "In all seriousness, I know he's good for you and I'll try to make her see that, too."
"Thank you." Phoebe nodded.
"If I shackle myself to your luggage, you can't go..."
Piper smiled sadly. "I have to go. I don't think my professors will like it very much if I skip classes so soon in the semester."
Tears slipped down Phoebe's cheeks again. "This is so hard."
"I know," Piper whispered. "I'll miss you the most."
Phoebe gave up on the not crying thing. "When...?" she whispered, even though she really didn't want the answer.
Piper glanced at her watch and then looked back at Phoebe tearfully. "I'm supposed to meet Paige at the causeway soon so she can orb me home..."
Phoebe let out a sob and stepped forward to hug her sister.
Too soon! It was too soon.
Piper let out a sob of her own and clung to Phoebe, not wanting to let go.
Phoebe clung back. "Be safe," she sobbed. "Don't let Prue boss you around to much. We've been through hell here and she'll never understand that. You're stronger than anyone gives you credit for."
Piper didn't even bother trying to stop her tears. There was no way she could. "I love you, Phoebe."
Then she pulled away and walked out the door, afraid she would change her mind if she stayed longer.
"I love you, Piper."
Phoebe watched Piper walk out the door, and then sat down on the bed that used to be her sister's and covered her face with her hands.
[ooc: And Piper has left Fandom. *clings, omg*]
