lead used in Soviet cooking implements?!

Hey all!

I have a question that is a bit out there, but it's about cooking implements!

Basically, I have this garlic crusher. It was bought in Yugoslavia, but could have been made in the USSR, I'm not sure. There is no 'made in xxx country' thing on it of course. So, sorry to be vague about its origin. Obviously it's old ;) .

But anyway, when I use it, it always leaves a lot of black marks on my hands and on the garlic unless I wash it well before use. Recently it just annoyed me as I was using it often, but then I started trying to work out what metal it is made of to make black oxide like that.

And eh... lead makes black oxides.

Is it possible this damned thing is leaking lead all over my food? Any one know anything about communist cooking implements? Did they actually put lead into them? Apart from the black stuff it's a damned good garlic crusher, lol.

Anyone? XD
