i don't have anything as far as dishes go...but for the lactose intolerance...i take lactaid suppliment pills (lactaid brand or generic..)...you usually find them next to the antacids...and let me tell you! AMAZING! it allows me to eat dairy again with out problems! you take it with every dairy type meal (pizza, alfredo, cheesecake, bagels and cream cheese). All it is...is just a pill with lactose enzymes so your body can be ok!

at least this may help open back some options if you are willing to take a pill and or chewable for every meal that has dairy. Foods once forgotten can now be enjoyed again.

Can you take them every day as a "just in case" measure? Or is that a bad idea? *laugh* I don't typically plan out my meals for the day, so I don't know until a few minutes before I eat what it is I'm going to be eating.

You take them just as you're starting your meal, so if you're home just take what you need, if you're out, definitely carry some with you for JIC. =)

You are both geniuses, and I may adore you just a little bit. :)

I'm also lactose-intolerant. The pills work for most people but not for some (my friend's stepdaughter has no luck with them, for whatever reason). For me, personally, I have found that it's worth springing for the brand-name stuff (Lactaid, where I am), and that I have to take more than the box says. How much you need depends partly on you and partly on how much lactose is in the thing you are eating.

For me, I need 2 Lactaid Fast Act pills to handle 1 cup of coffee w. milk in it. I get annoyed at taking them sometimes but...some foods are just worth it! :D

you are welcome :) Take as many as you may need...like the commenter below said...I am usually fine with just 1 pill, as is my friend..but before, i used to need 2 pills AND i couldn't do generic...now i can take whatever and i usually spring for generic because i'd rather save a buck. The trick is: remembering to ALWAYS have some on hand when you switch purses D: i forgot mine tonight when i went out to dinner, and i had cottage cheese and...fuck...tomorrow is gunna be HELLA fun D:

Hadn't heard of these, thank you. If you take them before the meal containing dairy, presumably you can take more than 1 a day? I'm just beginning to have dairy affect me. Sometimes I can have a more processed (like aged cheses - good for the stomach, not for the migraines!) diary if I haven't had any for a couple days. But it would be nice to have cheese again & milk on cereal in the morning instead of soy milk. I like the soy milk ok, but it's much more expensive.

Yes, you can totally take more than one a day; take what you need with your meal(s).

Depending on what you're having and how much, you may need more with a specific meal. My dad takes about 6 (of one kind of his lactose pills) when he has a chowder we make which is really cheesy, but may only need 2 for something else. As jacquez above said, it depends on your tolerance and what you're eating. Aged cheese have set longer so the lactose has more time to break down and easier to digest for the lactose-issued.

sometimes, i'll eat pizza for every meal (if we have tons left over from a party) and i'll take 1 pill each meal. when ever you plop dairy in your mouth, plop in a lactaid pill too :)
