pots and pans again

hi folks, i know this has been asked, sort of before, but is one kind of pot - say copper bottom, better than another kind, for use on a gas cooktop? We're getting a new stove next week and have the usual mis match of pots and pans. As far as what we'll be cooking - it will be mostly for 1 or 2 people, no children in the house, and liberal use of a propane grill outside for the heavy lifting of cooking meat. what would you get if you could get anything? and if you did get all clad stainless, where's the best place you've seen it? I'm totally open to pretty much anything and just starting to look. thanks in advance.
