Slow cooker newbie

Aug 24, 2011 12:42

My schedule this semester includes both morning and afternoon classes, so I finally invested in a cheap little 1.5-quart slow cooker. This way I can come home to a lovely-smelling apartment and a freshly-cooked dinner (with leftovers to eat the next day)!

... or at least, that's the theory.

Thing is, I've never used a slow-cooker before. I've read the instructions booklet twice and am doing the suggested "warm up some water" exercise, but it doesn't come with recipes, and I'm not the greatest at improv without some kind of prompt to go by.

I've glanced at the "appliance: slow cooker" and "appliance: crockpot" tag here and taken notes on some recipes, but I want more suggestions! Pot roast? Macaroni and cheese that doesn't come in a box? Dirty rice? Curry?

No real food restrictions, but I am trying to keep a budget since I'm without work right now.
