You beat me to posting these sort of cookies, I made some for may 4th using basic sugar cookie dough.
Do you find the storm trooper is the worse one to work with and the dough sticks the most to that one?

maybe try pressing it into some flour first and then on to the cookie dough? Just dust off the excess flour from the cookie.

no, they all came out pretty cleanly from the cutters. maybe it was because of the recipe i used? it was very easy to work with.
