Making Hamburger Buns Out Of A Bread Loaf Recipe

Jan 11, 2011 17:12

Hi there! This may or may not be a silly question, but as a bread baking newbie it's one I felt the need to ask before wasting tons of dough trying it myself.

Has anyone taken a bread loaf recipe (not for a bread maker obviously) and turned it into several hamburger buns/rolls instead? I found a recipe for Jalapeno Bread not that long ago (which I've always loved, but never made) and the thought occurred to me that it'd make a KILLER hamburger bun or roll for sandwiches. The only problem is I don't know what separating the recipe into smaller rolls would do to the cooking time at all.

So I suppose my questions are these:

Has anyone tried to do this before with any luck?

How long should you bake buns versus bread? And should the baking temperature be changed?

Is there some sort of pan I should use for this, or would rolling them into balls and placing them on a sheet pan be adequate?

Even better, does someone have a good recipe they've tried that would be easily customizable by adding Jalapenos and such?

Thanks so much for listening to my newbie bread baking babble!
