Savory Christmas gifts?

Because I am extremely low on fund this year, everyone is receiving food as gifts. So far I'm doing cookies, caramel sauce, and cocoa mix but the only savory thing I have to make is cheese straws. I wish I would have canned salsa in the summer because that seems like a good idea for gifts, but with produce right now not looking so great I wasn't ( Read more... )

Maybe some savory spiced nuts like these? Not super cheap, but an idea.

Spiced popcorn mixes. I've given it to some popcorn loving relatives for a few years and they always ask for more! I usually do a trio, regular salt and butter, chili powder and garlic powder, and cinnamon with nutmeg.

What about a can of homemade barbecue sauce? It's versatile and savory. Sadly I don't have my grandmother's recipe to share, but hopefully you can find one on a canning website or in a cookbook.

You could always make some of those recipe-in-a-jar with herbed biscuit mixes.

I make these cheese wafers all the time. I generally go off the Fannie Farmer recipe because I don't like them particularly spicy, but they are amazing. I will be making a whole batch for my friend Christine for Christmas. :)
