I have a stovetop Presto, and it's great. We paid full price for it, though.

can you use a stovetop pressure cooker if you have an electric range? the apartment i'm looking into has a flat, metal, electric range. thanks!

Absolutely! I lied though, I totally don't have a Presto, I have a Fagor.

Get one that is newer technology and doesn't need a rocker.

I have a Fagor and it's alright, but looking at klwalton's link I was drooling over that one!

I have a Mirro 6 quart stainless steel stovetop unit:

I also have a....16quart (I think) Mirro pressure canner that I picked up on sale at Walmart after the canning season was over-I think it cost under $50.
I love it-especially for things like green beans, which take 3 hours in a regular water bath.

Personally, I don't mind the rocker; unless the hissing gets to you, they work fairly well. But, I've never looked at the newer styles.

Also, the Mirro cookers have all the parts & seals available-forever! My mom has an 8 qt aluminum cooker she got as a wedding present. We can still get new seals.
