It was Friday night, and Eve had come to the bar to drink, dance, meet a hot woman or two and not think about Annalise. So far, she’d only managed one out of four, and the drink didn’t even taste that good. She was currently finishing the last sips of her cocktail and deliberating between ordering a different one in the hopes it might be more impressive, and giving the night up as a lost cause. Heading home to her PJs and an episode of Scandal was looking pretty tempting right now.

“You waiting for someone?” asked a voice from behind her.

Eve turned and felt her breath catch. A tall, slim woman was smiling at her while she pulled a hat from her head and let her hair tumble down around her shoulders. In the low light of the bar her long waves of hair seemed to glow in ten different shades of brown and gold. For a moment, Eve was speechless.

The woman slid onto the bar stool next to her.

“I said,” she repeated silkily, “are you waiting for someone?”

Eve shook her head, letting a slow smile turn her lips up. In a way, she was waiting for someone - she seemed to spend her whole life waiting for Annalise on some level - but this woman looked like she could make that wait a whole lot more bearable.

“Just my next drink,” she said, and the woman grinned and turned to the bar man. She ordered two whiskeys, but the length of time she spent flirting with him whilst she did so made Eve sit back a little and reassess the situation. She was just about to down the whiskey that had been set in front of her and leave, when the woman leaned forward and whispered in her ear.

“Don’t worry about him,” she said softly. “I’m just trying to establish an alibi.” She leaned back and gave her a mischievous smile.

Eve couldn’t help but laugh. It was obviously a lie, but the woman was charming.

“I’m Alex,” the woman said, taking a sip of her whiskey.

“Eve,” Eve replied. She cocked her head to the side and looked Alex straight in her wide, coffee-coloured eyes. “Do you need an alibi for the whole night, Alex? Maybe I could be of help.”

Alex grinned. “That would be very helpful,” she said.

Eve was more than happy to oblige.
