‘I really think,’ Ianto muttered, his mouth just visible above the three blankets that were covering him, ‘that after so many years of being immortal, you might have tried to figure out how to transfer some of that excess healing power over to your sick friends.’
Jack, who was sitting on the side of Ianto’s bed, raised an eyebrow. ‘You think I should have spent the last few decades learning to cure my lovers of the common cold?’
Ianto scowled at him. ‘It’s flu, not a cold,’ he insisted. ‘And I suppose you’ve had better things to do?’
Jack grinned. ‘Things…people… etcetera.’
Ianto gave a dramatic sigh and burrowed further under the blankets. ‘This is all your fault,’ he said, his voice muffled. He snuck one hand out from under his pile of quilts to reach for a tissue and dabbed it on his red nose. ‘If you hadn’t started that snowball fight in the first place…’
‘I don’t recall you complaining at the time,’ Jack said, his voice smug.
Ianto thought back to the fight - to the way the light had glinted off the icy ground and the way Jack’s cheeks had been flushed pink with the cold; to the way that they had rolled around in the snow, Jack’s strong arms finally pinning him down and their cold lips meeting in warm kisses; to the way that they had stripped each other afterwards with chilled hands, and the hot shower they’d shared… Jack was right. Ianto hadn’t complained at all.
‘In fact,’ Jack continued, as he handed over the mug of steaming tea that he had brought Ianto, ‘I wouldn’t be surprised if you thought it was all worth it.’
Ianto tried to look as stern as possible, which he knew was difficult given his bloodshot eyes and spotted pyjama shirt. ‘It was certainly not worth it,’ he said firmly.
But Jack just smiled, as if he knew that Ianto was lying.
Which, of course, he was.
