I remember thinking last night, as Catherine, Jaime, Rojo, Anna, and I went out, that last time we were out in Richmond under a tornado watch, the power had gone out. And wouldn't it be ironic if it did again?
So we went out to eat at O'Charley's, and then headed over to Comedy Alley. We got there early, and the place looked a little sketchy. We decided to loiter outside for a few minutes, and see whether any people our age went in. So we stood outside, debating whether to actually go or not. We were just about to give up on the place and go see a movie, when we decided, eh why not? If it's good, well good! And if it's not, at least it'll make a good story.
We thought admission was $10, but actually it was only $5 a piece. We were required to buy some food or drink with entrance, but I got a cheap cinamon pretzel, and that was good. The place had a few tables set up and a little stage in the front of the room. And of course we sat way up front so my feet were practically on the stage. There were a few other people there. A group of college age boys, and a few couples.
The group was called Punch!, and they did mostly improv. Some of the stuff they did was really funny, even hilarious. But some of it was really not. Like the kind of not funny where you felt bad for the guys. At times, they seemed like four high school theatre boys, having fun, but not really making sense or being funny to the audience. Sometimes it was so not funny that it was funny. But it was worth it, being there with friends at least.
So they have one last game, the Rollercoaster of Love. Basically the bachelor game, or the dating game, or whatever it's called. And this was the one game where they needed an audience member, so one of the guys comes off the stage to pick the *lucky* bachelorette for the night. And it just so happened that I was the chosen one. So they dragged me on the stage and had me sit in the chair, while they announced the bachelors - one ADHD guy whose name I forget, Well Hungamus, a Roman soldier, and Ethyl, an old grandma. So I got to sit on stage and ask them questions. And I had them each make up a poem for me. Haha, it was great. Classic, simply classic. I ended up choosing Well, and we won an all-expenses paid vacation and lived happily ever after. Oh, it was a riot! Catherine took some pictures. Once she emails them to me, I'll post them.
So yeah, as pathetic as parts of the performance were, I think we all agreed that it was a night well spent. And, as Jaime said, at least it makes a good story. A story and a half, I say.
