an update after 4 weeks

thank you reka dear for nudging me out of laziness to resuscitate this stagnant blog, and megs for reminding me that the last post about my 32 demerit points is hardly a read about my glamourous past.
i return with yet another boring monologue on my life
(shameless plug here: did you read my more happening post about batam? its finally up!)

so anyway.
contrary to popular belief, i have not been bumming around in the past month.
rather, i juggled data entry work for my aunt's mattress company (anyone wants to get a new bed?) with tutoring her elder 2 kids.
yep, yet another month spent at another relative's house with 4 kids including a pair of twins.
curiously enough, it didnt feel like deja vu.

occasionally, friends like wee&tricia and jun&mel would provide the oasis in the desert of my social life
two highlights my pee-wee brain remembers:
- kboxing into the wee hours of the night. apart from the embarassment of being the last ones out of the premises and the financial strain of midnight cab fare, i find it emotionally gratifying to blast your lungs to good old english/mandarin evergreens
- dinner&dessert at raffles place. i finally dined at the claustrophobic crepes cafe (whatsitcalled-pan in the house?) situated at the basement of raffles city. adventurous mel picked the peking duck, jun went for the classy and atas-sounding norwegian salmon with chutney while i stuck with the safe ham and ah-something (tasted like pesto). all good, all pricey, all something you foodies can try next time you're feeling middle class rich.

july was also a hectic time in church, mainly because of youth month.
i shall fondly look back on the attempt to squeeze some 400 half-cooked chee kuehs into the church freezer, getting nearly 3rd degree burns from forgetting to put sunblock during the survivor challenge at sentosa, frantically fanning makeshift bbq pits (made from aluminium trays) and belting out 'i will survive' to a unexpected crowd of uncles chugging tiger beer at the s-21 opposite the church at finale night.
God has been good.

another thing i just remembered is my harrowing 1st phase tests at the ministry of foreign affairs for the role of management support officers.
my hazed memory recalls sitting through 5 tests from 9am till 1pm with two 5-minute breaks in between.
oh, and having to shade more than 150 circles on OAS sheets.
hopefully the effort wasnt wasted and ill be called back for the 2nd phase interview (will update if that happens!)

just a mini-holla to the folks down-under:
while im deeply envious that some of you guys are going skiing, meeting at pubs downtown melbourne to commemorate national day, shopping for cheap marks&spencers chocolate cookies and avocados at supermarkets (never mind that i dont eat them)...you are all missed!
please e-mail your adds or something so we could start up an aussie/sg penpal network or something, haha.

another random thread of thought: thanks uncle peter for the new autographed cd by wang lee hom (grace, that makes you getting to meet nakata even now!)

i shall retreat to harry potter and his deathly hallows before i sidetrack again.
peace to the world!
