Wildflower on a Walk II/Writing

I'm enchanted by weeds parading as wildflowers. Don't want them in my yard, mind you, but they make me smile all the same. These are the tiniest of daisy looking blooms. I photographed them last night and was unhappy with the shot, so I returned again this morning. The sun was barely making it's way through the trees and many of the blooms were still 'sleeping'.

It got me to thinking. One day I'll finish Abbie's Story. It was inspired by my years spent in the Texas Hill Country, and involves a food critic, a barbecue contest and a rough-and-tumble rancher. Spring there was beautiful but not enough to make up for the blanching sun of Summer. Still, a lot of good imagery and inspiration. My mom jokingly (or perhaps not so jokingly) told me she wanted to see me published before she dies. Since I intend for her to be around until she's at least 100, I figure I've got just shy of a half decade to go. :)

Here's a teensy little snippet, from the opening chapter......

***************

Heat licked the asphalt wet-black, shimmering for an instant in exaggerated puddles across the road. Summer in west Texas had always been hot, but this year was expected to be down right miserable.

Gone were the glorious wildflowers of Spring that she remembered--clouds of violet bluebonnets spangled with bright yellow stems. Gone too were the triumphant red Indian blanket blooms and the delicate pink Lenten roses that often crowded the shoulder of the road, seemingly oblivious to the searing temperatures and continual gush of exhaust.

Not a big fan of straight on shots, but it is what it is. Would've liked more definitions in the petals. Another picture I really liked didn't make it. I deleted it from the card before I'd realized my error.
