Pharmacy Question?

Dec 13, 2011 12:45

For those in the pharmacy know, has it been confirmed that Isomethptene Mucate (Midrin) was pulled from the market? I couldn't get any answers from our pharmacy here and haven't talked to any of my old tech/RPh friends lately. The Butalbital compound? that was subbed doesn't seem as effective.

Not sure if this site would help but if you check out http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/medlineplus.html
you can find other subs to talk over with your doctor.

Thanks for the response. It's generally easier for me to ask a tech. I was in pharmacy until the end of 2009 and those folks usually have the first heads up as to what has been pulled/introduced/changed about a given drug. We were frequently telling doctors when they called in a script for a drug that was no longer available or for a strength/therapy that had a new incarnation.

I agree with you the pharm tech have the more up-to-date-info on med drug changes. Only sent you the site 'cause they put up the latest test results and whatnot on their daily news filter.

Yes, Midrin and all similar have been pulled. The FDA has decided they were approved before appropriate testing and are not "proven" to work on migraines. BS. Anyway, one maker of a similar med is going through the testing and their product should be back in a couple of years at a much higher price :(

I am very upset over this too because my migraine med of choice, MigraTen is also gone. My current doctor has given me Fioricet since triptans do not work for me. (Fioricet works, but not as well as MigraTen).

Well that stinks. Thanks for the response. I knew it couldn't possibly be on back order for this long. We don't take it that frequently, but the Midrin seemed to really do the trick.
